“Not bad for the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2013

Booked with little notice and got a twin room at the top of the hotel. The floors are creaky and odd but this is old hotel and to be expected. The water pressure was not as good as I would have liked but it was sufficient. The staff were friendly and helpful. The included breakfast in the morning was very good and I could sit at a window overlooking the bridge and falls. I thought this hotel represented good value for money despite the somewhat older décor.

We stayed 5 nights in this hotel. The room was comfortable and large with a stunning location and the staff were very friendly but that is about the only positive. The hotel smelt musty, thread bare carpet and the separate car park located 50 metres away was disgraceful , rubbish everywhere and had not been cleaned for months. The response from the proprietor was very casual. Our room was on the corner of the main street and we suffered the noise from drunks returning from the pubs. It needs a major makeover. We checked out at 9am and the staff had to find the proprietor, I think he was still in bed.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the river side away from the noisy main street

A smashing Hotel right in the middle of Llangollen, next to the river, across the road from the preserved steam railway; the horse drawn and power barges on the canal and right in the middle of beautiful countryside.

Room Tip: Try for a room overlooking the river

This hotel has a really nice spot next to the river Dee and in the centre of town. The hotel in general is well past it's best with the public areas in dire need of refurbishment. Had that old run down feel about it. Having said that my bedroom was large, airy, very clean and reaonably well modernised. Shower was a bit of a problem - lacked any power so taking a shower was a bit of a marathon to get wet. Breakfast was also very good. All in all an OK stay but hotel could and probably will improve.

Stayed with my wife 2 nights. This is an old Hotel one stayed in by Queen Victoria, however it has seen better days, in need of a complete refurbishment.
There is a lot of dampness the carpets are well worn and rooms are in desperate need of redecoration.
The rooms are adequate good size and beds quite comfortable.
The television was TINY ...you need binoculars to see it. The bathroom was ok with all the usual toiletries.
The breakfasts are not bad but the service was very slow ..."understaffed" however, the hotel is right in the centre , there is parking and not bad for £130 for 2 nights stay.

Beautifully sited hotel next to river, close to town and amenities. Has seen better days but is gradually being upgraded and could eventually be an excellent choice of accommodation. Rooms on the lower floors, allocated to some of our party, have been refurbished and are modern and comfortable. Our own room on the top floor was clean but small and obviously awaiting refurbishment, as were the carpets on corridors and stairs. Lounge area overlooking the river is well furnished and very comfortable. Breakfast was a real letdown - limited choice of cereals and fruit, cooked breakfast of 'value' food very poorly cooked (hard fried eggs, tomato not cooked through, warm bread rather than toast).

Lovely Olde-World atmospheric interior. Antique furniture pieces hiding in nooks and crannies. Lots of history. Super room on top floor. Watched herons and dippers foraging in the river Dee and longboats gliding past at eye level in the Llangollen canal across the valley. Kept window open through night - fell asleep to the sounds of the river. Top class breakfast. Sat by the window overlooking the river and watched comings and goings over the bridge.

There is nothing to complain about unless your eye is offended by the occasional scuffed stair carpet.
