“Great weekend venue”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2012 via mobile

A group of us stayed here last weekend, having been the previous year and aware there were new owners, we were interested to see what had changed. The hotel is still being renovated and a slight smell of paint lingers but certainly didn't spoil our stay. Staff were very friendly, breakfast was great, fantastic spot for walkers (walking group from Lancashire off on our jollies) so all in all we had a great time and I'm sure we will return. I managed to leave some clothing behind, rang the hotel, they popped it in the post and it arrived 2 days ago. Big thanks to them for that.

Many thanks for your generous review. It was a pleasure hosting your party and I'm delighted that so many aspects of the hotel were to your liking.

It's good to hear from guests who have visited in the past and provide comments on ways that the hotel can be improved. I'm certainly glad that you'll be hoping to return to the hotel in the future and see what further changes and improvements we have made.

I'm glad too that you received the clothing you accidently left behind!

All the best

My partner and I stayed here for one night recently, having stayed before under the previous owners. Things are coming along nicely - but as anyone knows these things take time and money and any visitors have to accept that improvements will be ongoing! It is actually fun to see how things progress whenever you re-visit. We found the owner and staff to be most obliging and friendly. The place is certainly greatly improved from our last stay with the river views being addressed in the ground floor rooms so that you can actually see the river! We love the fact that we can take our dog with us, as the area is a great place for walking.

We ate in the restaurant in the evening and found the food greatly improved. Not being able to choose between 3 types of meat on the roast dinner we were offered some of each - hence obliging. Indeed all 3 were delicious.

Seamus has plenty of vision and ambition to turn the hotel into something he can be proud of - he is tireless in his efforts to make guests feel welcome, and it was lovely to chat with him about his plans for the future. We wish him well!

Room Tip: Ground floor riverside rooms are great for dogs, opening straight out onto the footpath.

Thank you for the lovely review. It was a pleasure meeting and hosting you and your partner, and I'm delighted that you enjoyed your stay.

It's pleasing to know that guests like yourselves, who have been before, are seeing the significant improvements we're making, and we appreciate people's patience and understanding as we work to improve more of the hotel. I'm very pleased too that you enjoyed your meals - why make difficult decisions when you don't have to, all three meats might be the best way to go with roasts from now on!

As we discussed, welcoming dogs and offering dedicated rooms for them is an important element as people love coming to this part of the world to explore the beautiful countryside, so we're glad you agree it's a good thing that we'll be maintaining that!

We look forward to seeing you again, and thank you for your support and kind wishes.

Kind regards
Seamus

We stayed recently with friends and were very satisfied with the venue. Yes it has been neglected in the past but the new owner is doing his best to restore the hotel to its former glory and we wish him well. Our room was comfortable, the food was quite acceptable and the staff were keen to please. Above all other the stay represented very good value for money. We would be happy to return

Room Tip: Book one with a river view

Thanks for taking the time to post a review. Your visit was before we acquired the hotel on 1 June this year, and since then considerable improvements have been made to the decor in the public areas, the letting bedrooms and we are in the process of creating a new entrance and reception area, which will make the most of our setting on the River Dee.

I hope that you will return at one some point in the future to see these improvements, and again enjoy all the area has to offer.

Kind regards

Just returned from a two night stay at the Chainbridge Hotel and can't praise it highly enough. This place has so much potential, yes, there are some areas in need of modernisation, but this is obviously underway and does not detract from its charm and character. The tariff represents excellent value for money and, its location, about 1.5 miles from the town of Llangollen and between the River Dee and the canal, is stunning. The staff are welcoming, friendly and accomodating and nothing was too much trouble. We had a room on the first floor, with a balcony overlooking the Dee, which was warm and comfortable and recently refurbished. We ate in the restaurant on our first night where the menu was extensive and the food of a high standard and reasonably priced. Breakfast was cooked to order on our first morning and buffet syle on our second. The quality, variety and service on both days was excellent. We did find the bar area a little on the cool side, largely due to the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the river - a small price to pay for such a spectacular view! We would definately return and would have no hesitation in recommending, we wish the owners every success with their ongoing plans for the hotel and hope to return at a later date to see how these are progressing.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the river offer stunning views and have a large balcony with outdoor seating and a...

Thank you for your very kind and generous review. I'm thrilled that your stay at The Chainbridge was such a success, and we're delighted that you enjoyed all elements of your stay. As you say, there is still much to do but we have made significant improvements since we took over the hotel in June, and with it's unique location and beautiful setting we hope that the hotel will remain a wonderful place to visit.

I'm very pleased to read how much you enjoyed the newly refurbished room, the dinner and breakfast in the restaurant, and the friendly and helpful staff.

We look forward to welcoming you back in the future, when we hope further improvements will have been made which will add further to our guests' enjoyment of The Chainbridge.

Warm regards
Seamus

We stayed at the hotel on the 1st December at it has recently gone into new ownership.
The rooms have been renovated and are clean and tidy. The staff were all pleasant and the manager shamus very professional. The hotel is close to llangollen and you can walk down the canal path to the town. takes about 20 mins.

Room Tip: ask for the manager / owner.

When my new wife and I were fortunate enough to book the honeymoon suite, we weren't expecting such a lovely, huge room with such an amazing view for the money.
We found the facilities great, and the staff attentive and very friendly.
We had breakfast there (very very nice) and had evening meals too and found the food to be of a great standard.
The bar area is comfortable, they hold a range of local ales and cider's which are well worth sampling.
Overall great, thanks very much to Seamus and his team.

Room Tip: Get one with a riverview and balcony.

Thank you for your kind review. I'm delighted that your new wife and you enjoyed your stay - and congratulations again on getting married!

We have recently created the honeymoon suite to give guests such as yourselves an extra special stay - with a four poster bed with views down the river, a seating area overlooking the chain bridge, and the balcony opening out on to the River Dee it's a unique room and we're delighted that you enjoyed it.

Thank you for your positive comments regarding the food, staff and service - all the team appreciate the comments we receive.
