“Brillaint attraction”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2012

We found the Gaol easily using our Sat Nav, Pay and Display parking really close by so not much walking. The attraction itself was really good and well priced. Will go back with the little ones at a later date.

“Interesting and Informative”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

We had a couple of hours to kill and on the spur of the moment went to the gaol - so glad we did. Very reasonable entry fee, £3.50 including a good audio guide. There is a lot to see and a lot of information, it's well presented and would appeal to most age groups including all but very young children.

“Great Attraction”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2012

Loved this place and only £3.50 entrance. Staff we're really nice. Free information talking wands to navigate you around as well. The only down side.....no free parking unless you're disabled. The street parking has a 45 minute return on it. Chippy right outside. If you like pub grub avoid the Drovers arms as its minging.

“Interesting and different.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2012

We were given audio players for information on this gaol, which was very interesting, you just pressed the number on your player corresponding with what room you were in. These machines was included in the price, which was very reasonable. £9.50 for two adults and a 14yr old teenager. If it is raining this is a good time to spend two hours or more. Staff very friendly and answered any questions we asked on the gaol. ..........my 14yr old loved it and thought it was a different kind of a day out.

“Great value and very welcoming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2012

Having spent longer than we thought visiting Nantclwyd y Dre in Ruthin (see separate review) we arrived at the Gaol at 3.15pm - told we had time to see round.

( Only once we were home and I went on to the Gaol website to check something did I discover we could have benefited from reduce tickets since we visited both these places - unfortunately neither venue mentioned this - it may have been shown on price boards but I certainly did not see the info. I think they are missing a 'sales' opportunity by failing to advertise each other - both run by the Council - do ask if you intend visiting both)

There has been a gaol here since the 17th century.
Lots of information provided on each area by the included audio tour (at only £10 for a family ticket that is extremely good value) also written information in most cells and other areas. No guides / characters there the day we visited but I believe there often are.
We all enjoyed the visit (incl our 15year old sons) but we were aware of the time as the afternoon wore on. Left just before 5pm and the lady on the reception still happy to chat with us as we left.

Allow yourselves plenty of time, there is lots to see, do and listen to - even dressing up clothes for young children. I would suggest 2 - 2.5hrs at least if you want to do it justice,
