“Friendly, professional and great fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013

From start to finish this place was exceptional -
A lovely friendly informative booking service, a beautiful relaxed half day trek with guides who were knowledgeable and obviously adored their work and beautiful scenery - fabulous ....
Give it a go, we had never been on horses before and apart from the sore muscles the next day had a ball.
Do ask if family group can trek together in the line - we didn't and wished we had.

“Amazing experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2013

Having only been on a horse twice before and my partner never we were a little nervous but the staff were outstanding and made us and the young girl and mum with us feel at ease very quickly, The horses were all gorgeous and clearly well looked after. We went on a beautiful trip up to slightly higher ground which looked out and around the stunning valley. On the way back we were lucky enough to be taken along the brook that flowed next to the road which again was an amazing experience.

Fantastic afternoon out. If we were to do it again, despite it being a long way away we would love to go back to them.

“Fantastic trek, brilliant guides”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

We did a full day trek through the Brecon Beacons. There were six of us in our group and we had two guides from Llanthony Riding & Trekking who accompanied us. Our group were mainly beginners or those who had ridden a few times before, with a couple more regular riders. The whole day was fantastic. Llanthony Riding & Trekking is a very professional set up and we could tell this straight away from things like the quality of the equipment and the well looked after horses.

We were each given our horses and made to feel comfortable, in fact the whole day felt a bit like a riding lesson in that we learned lots about riding and even got to do a rising trot (and for some in the group, a canter). The guides that we had, Katie and Lou, were really knowledgeable and friendly, and were constantly keeping an eye on us and making sure that everyone was happy. The horses were lovely and we felt safe the whole day.

I have ridden at a few different stables over the years and this is without a doubt the best set up I have come across. From the beautiful scenery to the good natured horses and the brilliant helpful staff, I would highly recommend Llanthony Riding & Trekking and can't wait to visit again.

“Whatever your riding experience, you will get a superb day in the saddle here!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

This is a superb place to experience the Brecon Beacons National Park on horseback, whether or not you are a complete beginner or an experienced rider.

I've been riding with Llanthony for about five or six years now and love the place. I will continue to return for my countryside/pony fix! Staff are all welcoming, very experienced, knowledgeable, helpful, and will ensure that you get the most out of your day - be it a half day trek or a full day hack. All the horses are superbly looked after, are fit, safe, and demonstrate amazing "mountain goat" skills picking their way up and down the mountains. What's also really nice is that the horses aren't overworked - they aren't "nose-to-tail zombies" you might see at other places, and all seem to thoroughly enjoy their work which is lovely. If you're a first timer you will get a super-steady eddy to safely teach you the ropes, or if you're a regular rider you might be lucky enough to get something a bit speedier for a gallop on the mountain.

I've ridden on beginner treks (mostly walk with some trotting for those who are able) with complete novice friends and was lucky enough to be allowed to hold my horse back for a short while at suitable spots so that I could have a good canter whilst the beginners trotted on. If you're an experienced rider you can choose the hack option for some exhilarating gallops where the terrain permits it.

Full day treks/hacks are excellent value for money. The ride starts out at 10am up the mountain, you'll be treated to spectacular views - often with Wales on one side and England on the other. Wild ponies and sheep inhabit the mountain amongst the gorse and heather. Lovely for photos (take a small compact camera in a bumbag or secure pocket!) You'll stop for lunch at a designated pub (very well behaved mounts will be "parked" round the back), followed by an equally enjoyable route back to the Priory...if you can climb back on after the great food that is. :-) You normally get back around 4pm.

I've ridden with a few places over the years and this place is head and shoulders above the rest. Long live Llanthony. See you next time!
