Why isn't this place as well known or highly praised as other restaurants in this part of the world? It is at least as good as the Hardwick, not as stuffy as the Walnut Tree, far better than the Fox Hunter and in a different league to the Bell.
Our fourth visit to 1861 was equally as good as the previous three. Service is invariably excellent and the food is imaginative and well cooked and presented. Prices are getting a little high, but quality is being well maintained.
May it long continue!
