“Warm welcome in Wales”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

We felt well cared for at the Black Boy Inn. It's a quaint and quirky place with staff eager to make guests comfortable. The "Black Boy" is a black buoy, and you'll be hearing sea birds day and night. We stayed in the annex behind the main pub, and were very comfortable. We lucked out with Room 52, which is nearly as big as our one-bedroom New York City apartment. Its kitchen is bigger than our New York City kitchen. You'll want a kitchen in Caernarfon because the town pretty much shuts down around 4:30-5:00. The Black Boy pub (excellent food) is open, but not much else, especially early in the week, The good thing about missing dinner in Caernarfon is that you'll have plenty of appetite for the Black Boy breakfast, which is superb.

Room Tip: Room 52 in the annex in back includes a kitchen with a table for 2, fridge, stove, etc.

Excellent food and prompt friendly service. Sat on the frontage with a great lunchtime atmosphere and buzz around the place. Large portions and hardly a wait. Recommend it. Pity the weather was so good as inside looked wonderful with its beams and traditional feel!!!! Will be back.

Centrally located within the town walls with easy access on foot to the castle and other attractions. Steeped in history and clearly popular with tourists and locals alike. Parking limited so get in early and enjoy the town on foot. Room was well appointed with old world charm but a little dark due to combination of low ceiling beams, dark timbers and smallish side window. Food, especially breakfast, was good quality and wide selection available throughout the day.

Your review does reflect what we are a true genuine Inn , not plastic square walls . You really know when you wake up that you are staying in an individual Inn. Thank you for review.

A last minute booking and we fell on our feet - first impressions after a long journey, staff were friendly, room spotlessly clean, beautifully furnished. The longer we stayed the more the staff impressed us - they couldn't do enough for us - the food was absolutely delicious - somuchso that we didn't bother looking for anywhere else to eat in the evening. The pub was buzzing - it was busy from 11 am until 11 pm, each area had it's own warm atmosphere and there was something to suit everyone - but despite the demands on the staff they remained friendly and efficient at all times even though they were clearly run off of their feet - sadly we realized that two nights was not long enough to explore the local area or to enjoy this lovely hotel so the last thing we did when we were leaving was to book again - I cannot recommend this hotel enough - they just get it right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We found it on the web and checked the reviews as you do. We were visiting the Welsh Highland Railway and the pub is very near the station.. Despite being very busy we were treated as individuals and Michelle who may well be the restaurant manager was superb as were all the staff we met. Both the dinner and breakfast menus were more than comprehensive and the beer quality was just as were had been told, superb. A little touch we really appreciated was the single sheet provided as well as the duvet. My wife carries one with us when it is hot but this is the first time one has been provided without asking.
The room was a little noisy as it was over the porch but I cannot complain as I requested the room with the bath. We will certainly return as it was a most enjoyable experience.

Room Tip: Not on the front unless you were very tired or went to bed late.

Fantastic Inn which is situated inside the old walled town of Caernarfon. Wonderful old world atmosphere but beautifully and sympathetically restored with everything you need. We stayed in the Executive Double Room which was fairly pricey but worth every penny. Staff were welcoming, informative and very professional. The food in the restaurant is so good we were blown away by the quality for such a good price. The location is stunning and is also well served by transport, amenities etc. Its only a 5 min walk to the Welsh Highland Railway line which goes to Porthmadog through the outstanding beauty of Snowdonia. And you mustn't miss a trip to the majestic Caernarfon Castle which is a few minutes walk away from the Inn.
