“great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

Have just returned from a one night stay and had a suite in the new building, Black Jacks.
It was fantastic value with its own kitchen and a generous en suite with a lovely big bath plus a shower. Large flat screen tv and lovely comfy king size bed. All spotless and just so cosy you didnt want to leave the room. That was until the lure of the bar drew you in with its old world charm, lovely beers and terrific food. Just a warning, we arrived on a sunday afternoon and the bar and restaurant were both absolutely packed. Proves how good the food is.
Staff were very friendly and we just cannot wait to return.

Room Tip: all rooms to a high standard

We hope so much you will return to this true welsh inn , not plastic and dressed up be a mock welsh themed Inn .This is the real thing , together with the real staff mostly welsh and local.

On our recent road trip around Wales we stayed at the Black Boy and I must say that you couldn't find a more welcoming place anywhere in the area, Gary, Hannah and the rest of the staff were genuinely friendly and believe me we, we have had the lip service, and the food was just spot on coming from Tassie it almost felt like home except for the lingo {:O), we did get snowed in for a day but as I said to the owner (I think) what better place to get snowed in. Will be recommending the place to anyone I know wanting to travel through the area, can't fault the place.

The black boy is a pub with character combined with accommodation with class guests are welcomed and made to feel so by all staff.

Excellent food and fine selection of beers that are well kept would be my first choice in the area

We stayed here for one night...after a heavy snowfall! We booked after reading the reviews on here and we weren't disappointed! The road up to the car park was a bit slippy due to the snow but being able to park our car so close and securely was great. The staff were all helpful and friendly. The room was a good size and very clean, warm and cosy. The bathroom was spotless and very modern for such an old Inn (this is a good thing!) The breakfast was big and delicious with lots of choice. Our stay would have been perfect if the cups in the room were a little bit bigger and maybe a couple of small bottles of water were available.

We would definitely stay here again!

I hope you will return when the sun is out , the Inn will be buzzing . Thank you for the feedback , we take note of the water bottles, but we are in center of purest welsh water country . Straight from tap is so good.

I booked the Black Boy for my anniversary as it was booked up for my birthday after checking out Trippy for the best place to go. As usual my fellow Trippy's were spot on with their reviews. The car park is adjacent which is a bonus and once inside guy on reception was very friendly and helpful. I booked the executive double which is very roomy and an excellent choice if you're staying for longer than one night as you've got plenty of room to spread out. We went for a beer in the pub which was very welcoming with blazing fire and the radio on! It took me back to when pubs were actually pubs. There was locals, couples like us and a big group all happily enjoying the atmosphere. The beer was excellent!
We booked an evening meal and the restaurant was very busy so make sure you book early. The food was excellent and the portions very generous, no room left for the pud.
Breakfast was very nice and meets the other reviews, the only downside was that their didn't seem to be enough staff with two couples having to sit at tables with used crockery on due to them not being cleaned. A note to all hotel owners if you've not got enough staff on due to an unexpected event let the customers know, they're more likely to be understanding, Also if you take a breakfast order, don’t bring back the said breakfast with food that wasn’t ordered, and this part of the experience took some bit of the shine off my visit.
Overall very good and I will be going back as it's a great base for the Isle of Mon or Snowdonia, only achieved V Good due to breakfast issues

Room Tip: executive double was great for a stay that is longer than one night

The Black Boy Inn was recommended to me by a colleague as the place to stay in Caernarfon. He was absolutely 'bang on right'. It was a wonderful experience. From the moment I arrived, nothing was too much trouble, the room was clean and inviting, the food was excellent and the staff could not be more pleasant and helpful. I will definately be using The Black Boy again when I am next in the area.

Room Tip: All rooms are the same quality - they all have creaking floors!

Just returned from an incredible 2 nights at this great hotel.....My partner and i were looking somewhere old and characterstic to take our Australian relatives, and could not have made a better choice, we were delighted.
We both had rooms in the attic that were wonderful with beautiful old beams, unlevel flooring etc., everything you imagine with a 15th century inn JUST WATCH YOUR HEADS .....other bonuses was large tv, big bathroom and plentiful tea and coffee facitites.
Breakfast was a treat and was huge! sets you up for the whole day.....We also chose to eat both nights at the inn, as breakfast the plates were plentiful ,with some lovely tasty dishes on the menu.
Everybody who works at the inn always greeted us with a smile, and the locals who drank in the inn where equally friendly, always ready for advice on where to visit etc., the wonderful lady who worked on the reception ( unfortunately i forgot her name) could not do enough for us, my relatives took ill whilst staying at the hotel and she went out of her way to get an appointment at her doctors for them to which we were very greatful, she also gave us a full tour of the other rooms not connected to the inn although part of it, wow these were huge some with kitchens, four poster beds, and the ground floor adapted for disabled quests they were great....My only regret is that we didnt have more time to enjoy this magical place, and the town itself, i cannot recommend it enough and simply cannot wait to return hopefully in the spring.

What can i say but thank you for the feedback and a great description of the Inn and staff . We try very hard to get it all right .I will pass on your comments to the team , we all view feedback with interest and try to react to them if we can . we have had complaints about the beams in past but there we go they are something we cannot change .
