This place is absolutely INCREDIBLE!
We went with the intention of killing an hour on the last day of a trip to North Wales. We expected ruins with, at best, a little diversion in the form of some written information.
Well, what can I say? It was absolutely wonderful.
You can walk on the walls, in the walls, up inside the walls and on different levels in the same wall. You can go to the top of the walls on each side, so you can look out to the sea, or over the town.
At every turn, there is something interesting to see, and the thought that people once lived and worked within the walls makes your skin tingle.
The access to all parts of the castle was enough to make it a worthwhile visit, and unbelievable value for money.
But then every so often, you come across a piece of magic that simply takes your breath away. I hesitate before describing everything because I don't want to spoil the surprises, but there is a room with royal exhibits, an absolutely fantastic military museum, and a looped video giving genuinely interesting information about this and other North Wales castles.
We had to leave after about 2 and a half hours, but otherwise we could have spent the day here, despite it being a wet, cold and windy day.
I cannot recommend the castle highly enough.
