The Eryl Mor really could be a first choice for anyone travelling to the gorgeous Bangor and beautiful region around the town. Nestled on the banks of the Menai Straits, overlooking the old pier, this hotel trades on its location. However, unlike houses, location, location, location are not the three most important things to consider for a stay.
The room in which my wife and I were imprisoned lacked anything more than a modicum of natural light. As it turned out, the lack of light was for the best as the decoration and maintenance of the room was just awful and the less you saw of it the better. Nothing matched - an achievement in some respects given the diversity of colours on show. The bedding was neither attractive nor clean and the carpet so poorly kept that my wife refused to walk on it in her bare feet, using my shoes as impromptu slippers. Also, we had booked a double and were given a twin furnished with what are best described as cots.
A colleague of mine had visited before us and he wittily commented that his room was so depressing that he would go into the bathroom to cheer himself up. He wasn’t exaggerating. However, our bathroom had no such therapeutic value.
So the room was really bad, how about the service and food? Well, I can’t comment on the service because there was none to speak of. As for the breakfast, the warm food was cold and the cold milk, warm. The women serving were so intimidating I begged my wife not to make a fuss. For £65, I expected more than this… Come to think of it, for £20 I would have expected more than this.
Don’t stay here. Trust me, it’s bad!
