“Nice Country Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013

Nice old fashioned hotel, great location, close to Aberystwyth.
Staff are very friendly and the food is excellent.
Rooms are large, we had a twin room, a bit old fashioned, but had great views over mid Wales and the nice gardens.

I stayed here for 2 nights for work, and I couldn't fault it. The views are amazing, very peaceful, quiet and great if you want to just relax. My room had amazing views. Food and service is very good, and I have never felt so relaxed in a hotel to be honest (even if I was there for work)! Parking is good, so no problems there. It's about a 3 mile drive from Aberystwyth so handy for the town also. Breakfast in the morning is the usual cold buffet but they also do a good cooked breakfast. I would highly recommend this hotel to stay or if you are nearby to visit for an evening meal. I don't seem to be easily pleased by hotels these days (fooled by good photos obviously taken by a Budding David Bailey) but I was very surprised by this one. Highly recommended! Try the cream tea too - delicious!

I think I've stayed in 5 different hotels in Aber by now, and this is by far the most pleasant I've experienced. It's outside the town on the south, and NOT walkable into town, so you'll need a car or a taxi. There are rooms in the main building, and others attached around the back, which is where I stayed. The room was excellent, very comfortable, very spacious, great views.

Breakfast was a treat, and consistently good (I stayed a working week). Didn't stay for dinners, as there are plenty of nice places to eat in town (reviewed elsewhere).

There is a fine lounge for relaxing and reading in, but not a whole lot else to do. It's fantastically quiet, which is great, or dreadful, depending on your circumstances. It was exactly what I wanted. It had loads of car-parking, and free WIFI that was a little hit-and-miss.

I am hard to please, but I will certainly be back. Value was exactly as I would have expected. Neither expensive nor cheap at the price I paid.

Room Tip: My room, behind the hotel, looking out over the fields, was fantastic. There were other rooms, oppos...

This is a traditional farm house type hotel with some additional rooms built onto the main building. I have stayed a few times now and feel a review is valid.

The rooms are very old fashioned and the main building a little grubby in parts. The view across the mountain is fabulous though and the staff are always courteous and friendly. The menu for dinner is limited but what you get is beautifully prepared and very tasty.

If you're a person looking something modern, then this isn't it, that said I don't know anywhere better in the Aberystwyth area.

Room Tip: Ask for the rooms outside the main building for a more modern feel. Unfortunately Wi-Fi is only avai...

Gazzy F many thanks for the recent review,

I am still in negotiations with companies on how to make the Wi Fi more widespread in the hotel in a cost efficient manner. I look forward to seeing you again very soon.

Only stayed one night, arriving latish and despite a problem due to failure of agency to confirm booking we were dealt with courteously and efficiently. The bedroom, on the first floor, was spacious with comfortable bed, armchairs etc. with superb view over the Ystwyth valley. The breakfast was first class with efficient yet friendly service. An altogether satisfying experience and strongly recommended.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 3 and would request the same on our next visit

Dear Ian E,

Many thanks for your wonderful review. I am pleased even due to an agency failure that you were dealt with in the manner we expect as a hotel. We hope to see you again at the Conrah very soon.

Stunning views but a shame the hotel was not quite so stunning. We stayed in one of the annex rooms and whilst it was large it needed a little more attention to the little things. No extra toilet roll, only one milk so not enough even for one cup of tea,old soap left in shower and toilet could have done with a dose of bleach. The building opposite to ours was very tired and in desperate need of a coat of paint.Having said the hotel needs some attention the food was really very good. Good quality, size portions very generous would go back for a meal not so sure if I would stay again.

Room Tip: We stayed in the outside annex so not sure what the hotel rooms are like.

Cally009 many thanks for your review,

I was pleased to hear you enjoyed the food and service and can assure you that all renovation is pencilled in on a programme that is ongoing. I would like to apologise for the room service issue and can assure you that this is currently under review and will not happen again.

The hotel is in an excellent location and very convenient for Aberystwyth and the west coast. The buildings are traditional smal country house style well maintained and comfortable room with adequate facilities. Shower valve requires an overhaul/service in room 1 but that is a minor issue.
I was approached at the breakfast table by the waitress while my wife was at the buffet and asked if we were ready to order. I suggested that she should return when my wife was at the table, but she did not return, despite a reminder to a passing member of staff, for about 30 minutes, meanwhile taking orders from others in the dining room who had arrived later. We were of course left without tea and toast for that period

Room Tip: Ask for and pay for the view if you want it - it is a charming location.

Dear Swelch5590,

Many thanks for the recent review, Please accept my sincere apologies for the lack of service at breakfast time. I can assure you this is not the norm and it prompted a training review and session for all staff. I am pleased you had a wonderful stay other than this and hope to see you again in the future.
