I have been here twice now and both times did not disappoint. We (myself and partner) called in for a quick coffee and a nose around mid-march to get an idea of the place “Try before you buy" We had a good look around, had a look at the menu in view of coming back again.
The decor was up to date and modern but in keeping with the old character of the place, some of the art work in the dining room is perhaps a little to “wild” for the place, however the Welsh artwork of little traditional welsh ladies were fab.
The second time we called in for lunch, the menu was great not to big but enough choice with lighter options for quick bite to eat. Good range of choice in the bar, including local draft ales and soft drinks. Really liked how the bar flowed around both sides of the pub
I had Wild garlic and Tomato soup with hand cut chips it was faultless, was that impressed had to take a picture (see pic attached) nice to see seasonal produce being used at its best. The staff were attentive, polite and very helpful. The dining room had a few people in for lunch, for a cold Wednesday afternoon was nice to have a bit atmosphere. I felt the dining room was a little to open plan, was lacking some privacy, dimension and soft furnishings. Windows need dressing with some finishing touches, perhaps music? On a busy Saturday night I would imagine it to be quite noisy.
It is a shame the parking is now right outside the front door, I believe the pub used to have benches out the front like next door. On a hot summer day I would be reluctant to sit inside when sun is shining out! On the whole the transformation is great, in a perfect location, food is faultless and excellent value for money, will be back for evening dinner soon.
