“Great day out.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

This is another great National Trust property which is well worth a visit. The guided tour around the house brought the story of the family to life and made the visit.

“Great tour of the house”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

Loved the wall and ceiling paintings. Very helpful staff. The grounds looked impressive but unfortunately we went on a wet day.

“Pleasant visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

Visited on a cold but sunny October Saturday. The staff are friendly and knowledgable. The grounds and garden are well maintained. The house looks good from the outside but is a little jaded on the inside. Perhasp it suffers a little from comparison with other NT homes but i thought the general standard of the interiors was not at the level of say Nostell Priory. But overall a nice way to spend a Saturday!

“Secret Garden”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

Hanbury Hall south of Birmingham is a real treat. A NT house worth a visit in its own right has a enclosed hidden-from-view formal garden which is the best I have seen for some time. HH is a great place for a lunchtime snack and walk through history and pleasent garden saunter. The orange and ice houses (the latter being a bit of a walk from the main house) are unique and intriguing.

Really good half day out with a surprise at every turn

“Hidden Gem! Don't miss this if you're travelling the M5 near Droitwich.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

I had no idea what to expect when I visited Hanbury Hall - I had simply typed 'National Trust' in my sat nav and selected the closest option as a possible lunch break. But it turned out to be a real treat and a lunch stop of almost 2 hours!

Very well staffed, by knowledable guides in each room, offering some good insight into the colourful family history around this home . Excellent tea rooms, with hot meals at lunch, and a gift shop. The formal gardens are fantastic, and probably worth a visit in their own right. The house is extremely well preserved and the highlights are undoubtedly several large and impressive examples of James Thornhill's wall and ceiling paintings (His claim to fame is that he painted the dome in St Paul's cathederal in 1719, amongst other notable famous commissions).

Only 4 miles from M5 junction 5, so a good option to break a motorway journey. To reach Hanbury Hall from the M5, you're probably best taking the A38 south towards Droitwich then joining the A4090 Hanbury Road (my SatNav took me a more direct route but roads were very narrow and winding).
