Fabulous clean and well equipped cottage. Friendly welcome from owners. Will definitely stay ther again & recommend to friends. In a courtyard of other cottages, beautiful scenery and lovely welcome from the owners on arrival. Comfortable & central to a lot of local interests.

Room Tip: Sorry cant remove rating for fitness or swimming. No need to have either. Plenty of hills to run up...

We had a most excellent stay here at the Whitewells Farm Cottages. 18 of us rocked up for a re-union & birthday celebration weekend.

Our house, The Old Hop Kiln was the beautiful cottage with the round tower at the end. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms. A nice kitchen and sitting room too. The fridge was great, with lots of room. The cooker did the job great for all the cooking down. There was plenty of quality cooking gear too.

We spent a lot of time in the Saddlestones house as this house had the biggest kitchen and lounge. It was very nice too.

The view was fabulous, as you can see from the pictures I added. The ducks milling about the pond was a real hghlight. Everyone commented on the same picture when I posted it to Facebook.

I didn't really meet the people who run the show, but my partner who organised the whole stay said it was great dealing with them.

I texted their land-line once to see if they could restart the WiFi router when they got home and they did. The free WiFI is such a bonus too.

The value was the best part I think. For three nights for me and my partner it cost 120 GBP. That's 20 GBP each per night. OK, it's early in the season, but still fantastic in my opinion.

Thank you Whitewells Farm Cottages.

Room Tip: The saddlestones house has a big kitchen and lounge area

We stayed at Whitewells for a week back in June 2012. On first impressions we were very happy with the duck pond cottage. It was comfortable and well appointed with the much appreciated welcome gift of fresh eggs and cider.

The level of cleaning in the cottage wasn't 100% however when you are staying in the country you have got to expect a little dust. This being said there were cobwebs in the corners of the bathroom which had clearly been there for long time. The garden furniture wasn't fit to sit on due to lack of maintenance. It was rusty and broken.

We chose Whitewells due to their promise of the secure Orchard for our two dogs to exercise in. This was a massive disappointment. It took two days of scouring to find the kissing gate that was the entrance to the woods. It had taken us this long due to the fact that it was completely overgrown with nettles. There was no way of gaining access this way as the nettles were elbow height! I contacted the owner immediately who stated that he would go and 'beat them down with a stick' however in the meantime I could access the woods via their own property through the field. This access was no better as the grass and thistles were over knee height. I did carry my dog over the field (being small he would have gotten lost in the grass and injured due to that vast number of thistles/nettles) in order to try and make use of the orchard to find that the orchard itself was also completely overgrown! The website states that there are paths mown through the woods, this is untrue. Needless to say my dogs did not get use of the facilities as the access gate was never cleared during the duration of our stay.

An additional let down was the lack of information room which is also promised on the website. During our stay this room was completely filled with cots and other bulky items making the information completely inaccessible and quite frankly a health and safety risk.

These cottages could be beautiful if they were maintained to a far higher standard.By reading the message book in the cottage it was clear to see that the premises were taken over by new owners a few years ago after the previous owners suffered a very sad loss. This is not made clear as they are still using old documentation.

On the whole we enjoyed the holiday because we went and explored the surrounding areas on a daily basis. As a dog friendly holiday let I would not recommend Whitewells as a desirable place to stay due to the fact that the dog exercise area is not fit for purpose and there is nowhere else to walk/exercise your dogs on site due to the fact that the cottages are situated directly next to a very busy road.

Not what you would expect coming off the main road but this place is a real gem in an idylic location. The cottages are all individual, full of character and very well furnished, with lots of personal touches. A very good spot for anyone exploring this most beautiful part of the country
