“Nice - with a few reservations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

It's a lovely old building, easy parking, nice breakfast; not to much to fault really, especially I'm sure if you pay extra to stay in the main building. We we're only using the hotel as a stopover so stayed in the cheaper annex, which was OK, but had a slightly 'student accommodation' feel about it. Doors and stairs were a bit noisy and the room was more functional than stylish or cosy. Also, no lift, so watch out if you're not so able to drag luggage up stairs (no offer of help with luggage at check in?). Overall, we found the stay comfortable and good value, if a little bit underwhelming. Bet tip is to steer clear of the annex if you want a more authentic 'country' experience.

Dear Stepelin

Thank you for taking the time to write a review for us. I was pleased to hear that you found your stay comfortable and good value. You are right that the main hall accommodation is worth paying the extra for the views, air con, history, etc. Although the Pair Tree Mews is of a very high 4 star standard in it's own right and offers superb value for money.

I hope you come back again soon and give our main hall rooms a try.

Kind Regards

Our visit couldn't have got off to a better start as we were upgraded to the princess Louise suite. It's the first time it's ever happened so a big thanks !!! We were a little reluctant to leave the suite as you can imagine, but we'd booked dinner and as it was the middle of the heat wave we had the option of sitting outside. The staff were excellent. Attentive and polite, but not overpowering. It was a set menu, but the choice was good and the monkfish tail in particular was delightful. It's also worth noting the gardens, which have been planted in a French classical style, and although very new added plenty of colour to the surroundings. The only drawback is the lack of a pool, which I believe may be in the plans

Dear Chris W

A lovely review thank you. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay in our Princess Louise Suite, undoubtedly one of the best hotel rooms in the region in my opinion.
With Phase 1 of the development project now complete, phase 2 starts in August with the addition of a new function suite (opening in December).
After that we will start looking at Phase 3 (leisure or spa or pool) but that will be a couple of years away yet.
You will have to keep coming back to see how we are progressing.

With Kind Regards

We got a great deal at this hotel. The first thing we noticed was how friendly and helpful the staff are. Whatever we asked for or about they always had an answer or resolve. The accommodation was clean and comfortable. The only negitive regarding the room was that there was not a mirror anywhere in the room even though there is a power point and hairdryer. I don't know many women that are confident to dry their hair without being able to see themselves! ha ha.The food was very good indeed and we did try a couple of cocktails which was also very good although a little on the pricey side. If the hotel decided to add a spa and indoor pool then we would certainly be going back as it is a lovely base for exploring the Cotswolds.

Room Tip: I would ask to stay in the main hotel building.

Dear Mitch0118

Thank you so much for leaving your review on Tripadvisor. We were pleased you enjoyed your stay, and in particular found the staff helpful and friendly.
There are only so many excuses I have about a lack of mirrors. There has been an embarrassingly slow process to get the ones we required manufactured for us, (which we ordered and paid for in February!) in the meantime I have put some temporary mirrors above the dressing tables and we have a few spare full-length mirrors that we can provide on request.

I look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel very soon.

Dear gary s

How nice to hear that enjoyed your stay in our hotel, we are very proud of this beautiful building and gardens. There are further expansion plans in the pipeline, the first phase is to remove the old hut near the car park and build an 'Orangery' (function suite) which should be ready for Christmas. There are some loose plans for leisure and spa in the future.

Come back soon to see how we are getting along.

This is an excellent hotel which we really enjoyed. Greeted at reception with lovely checkin staff.
The wood panelled corridors and common rooms are quite beautiful. We paid a bit more and had a bedroom in the main house overlooking the gardens and countryside. The bedroom was roomy with a large modern bathroom. The bed was absolutely heaven ....a struggle to get up.
The dinner menu was a bit small but the food was first class as was the service. We stayed for two nights and easily chose different things off the menu....but had we stayed three nights however we would have struggled.
Just one small whinge....the cooked full english breakfast had obviously been waiting around on the hot plate for some time before arriving at the table.

Room Tip: Worth paying the extra to be in the main house overlooking the gardens

Dear richardandjeannette

Thank you so much for your feedback, we are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. I have noted your comments about the small choice on the menu, we have plans to expand this over the coming weeks so we have 2 restaurant menus available.

We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

The breakfast area was great and full of character and because we did not stay in the super deluxe rooms we stayed in an ordinary room in a newly built wing. We had a downstairs room and so when the folks upstairs closed the room, it was very noisy until after midnight when they went to bed. It is worth paying for the character of the place if you stay in the manor itself. The staff were helpful. The garden was lovely.
