“Arrive in daylight!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2013

I went on a weekend course here - had no idea what to expect, but was mostly very impressed. The estate is extensive and hilly: the main premises are in a valley, with the accommodation blocks grouped both above and lower down the slope. You can drive to all the venues and there are paths and steps for pedestrians. I was given clear instructions on how to find my block and my room but I didn't find the signage easy. (Thank goodness I wasn't arriving in the dark). The room was very well appointed - no complaints. The food was good, although the continental breakfast choices were basic. I'd advise going for the cooked options. One very good feature was the number of staff round the place - they popped up everywhere, which was just as well as the magnetic keypad device to get into the accommodation block kept defeating me. My only quibble was with the accessible parking near main Reception. The sign invited you to press a button for attention so that a fire door could be opened to let you in. The first night there I waited in vain with two others for ages, but no-one came. One of my companions eventually decided to try and get in another way and reported that the path actually led round to Reception so round we went. I took this up with staff and was told that probably there was a flat battery in the device and that they would test it. As I walked away I heard one of them say 'It's working perfectly'. So I reckon that people will continue to be waiting at the accessible parking! A minor point? Not if your mobility is even worse than mine and you really need the most direct route to the dining room. So - for that, as well as the signage, I give Farncombe 4 stars not 5.

Room Tip: If you're not driving, you might want to be near Reception rather than in the furthest block.

I have been residing here for a training for 8 days and the place is spectacular, nature everywhere and good warm food every day. It was a pity that we were the whole day in the training and could not walk much or enjoy the facilities. Only downside I saw was related to the snow as it froze during the night and, notwithstanding the salt they put quickly, I had problems reaching the restaurant so I guess it can be even more dangerous for the numerous elderly guests I saw around.

We went for a works team building event for two days. The place is set in acres of grounds which are beautiful, we just needed more time to explore! The rooms were really nice, spacious, clean and comfortable. The food was amazing throughout the whole two days, I cannot fault it at all!

This place is a bit difficult to categorise. It caters for the business market during the week, running conferences and business development courses and offers residential study courses for individuals and groups at weekends.
They aim to satisfy the higher expectations of the business community in terms of accommodation and food, and by and large succeed. Consequently private individuals attending weekend residential workshops on a wide variety of subjects are pleasantly surprised by the quality of the facilities. It is closer to 4 star hotel than the usual instuitutionalised accommodation enjoyed at say a university campus or similar facility.
The location is stunning, being on the side of the Cotswold escarpment above Broadway, overlooking the Vale of Evesham. The accommodation is spread out over a 400 acre site and is a mixture of some older and newer blocks. The newer, which is the only accommodation I have stayed in is really very good - comfortable and airy rooms, modern furnishings, good quality bathroom, excellent outlook and tea and coffee making facilities. The older may not be quite so welcoming judging by the outside appearance.
The central facilities are a short walk away, often up or down a steep couple of hundred metres but this helps you walk off the splendid food in the refectory style restaurant. You queue up for the very well presented food - usually a choice of two starters, three main courses, a couple of puds or cheese & biscuits or fruit. You are also expected to clear away your plates but this is no hassle. Usually the very friendly and helpful staff do this for you whilst you are chatting to your new found fellow guests.
There is an ample and reasonably priced bar with sun terrace and adjoining pool room. Extensive hot drinks are available at no charge from good quality dispensing machines.
We have stayed on two occasions over an early May Bank Holiday weekend as part of a large group and have not participated in the residential courses, but in talking with fellow guests that have, understand these are of very good quality.
I don't think it is possible for individuals or couples to stay without attending a course, but if you are contemplating a course, I think you will find the accommodation and food is extremely good.
The venue would benefit from having a pool.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

I stayed for a painting weekend and felt inspired just by the scenery over the Vale of Evesham.
Accommodation is comfortable has been refurbished recently and the bedroom was clean, with tea and coffee. The food is excellent - fully cooked breakfast (fruit choice a bit lacking). Then after painting all morning it was time for a 3 course lunch (3 options). Evening meals are 3 course with option to enjoy the bar.
I will be returning again in September for another course. The staff are relaxed, yet very efficient and friendly and help move those who have difficulty walking to get to other buildings (This center is on a very steep hill). Apart from the atmosphere and enjoying the company of other like minded painters, I am trying to get my business clients interested in holding a conference here as the facilities are so good.

I've now visited several times with two different employers and never tire of going. The setting is spectacular, overlooking the Vale of Evesham, the grounds lovely and facilities superb. Excellent food and warm, professional service in modern and stylishly furnished venues. Stayed twice too and the facilities are also excellent. It's ideal for taking a team away from the office and doing indoor and outdoor team activities, conferences and planning sessions.
