“A smart, friendly hotel in a great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2010

Across the road from the castle and therefore in the heart of this charming town, the Mercure Castle hotel made an ideal location for a recent business meeting. Secure car parking within the hotel courtyard was a positive advantage for the delegates arriving by car, although the railway station is less than a 5 minute walk away.
From the check-in to the bar staff, the emphasis is on friendly efficiency - the barman has an impressive knack of remembering your name and making you feel welcome.

It was great to read that all went well with your stay and your comments have been passed onto the team. The team work tirelessly to ensure the high standards of facility and service you expect are maintained. It is therefore a great motivator for them to hear that these efforts are appreciated

Perfect location for visiting Windsor Castle, as only 1 minute walk to main entrance. We stayed in a twin room in the main hotel building, which had everything we needed and what you would expect from a 4* hotel. Beds were very comfortable. Bathroom was spotless. We had booked dinner bed & breakfast and were not disappointed. The food and service was superb. Felt very welcome and nothing was too much trouble for the staff.

Windsor castle hotel is a great place to stay for short business trips. The rooms are more less standard but the service is very good and the bar staff is amusing. Breakfast is ok and you can walk just two minutes to arrive at nice restaurants & lovely bars around the Windsor Castle.
As I am a business traveller I missed WLAN for free, as this is a must if you pay > 100 per night.

I visited Windsor to fill in a weekend on a business trip. The Mercure Castle was a great choice. OK, maybe there is one better located hotel in town but this was still very good. I stayed in room 212 in the back of the main building (so no view of the castle) which was an OK size and spotless, like the rest of the hotel. The meals (I had two breakfasts and one dinner at the hotel) were first rate, though coffee in the lounge was rather expensive at over 3 pounds for a small cap (there are better options nearby). The windows were double clazed but still on the first night aeroplane noise was quite prominent. This presumably depends on weather and which runway is in use at Heathrow, as I didn't hear any planes after that. The staff were attentative and helpful. Highly recommended as a clean, quality, characterful hotel.

I booked this Hotel via the internet based on T.A. reviews and the fact that we have stayed in Mercures previously. As it was my husbands birthday I emailed and asked for a nice room in the front of the main building ( not the annexe as reviews were not good ).
When we arrived we were told that the room allocated had to be given to a V.I.P. and were offered one in the annexe which we refused after seeing it ( view was a brick wall ).
After considerable searching by patient reception staff they found a room in the main hotel, but whilst 'delightful' this turned out to be very small with a 3/4 bed ( ideal for single occupancy ). In the morning I asked if we could be changed and within 5 minutes another room was found. This was large with a lovely king size bed ( very comfortable ) and en suite that was round a corner of the room and down a step, a nice layout.. The view was non existant - looking down onto the very grotty back area but the room made up for it.
The staff were all very attentive, helpful and polite - we couldn't fault them. Our room and in fact the whole hotel was very clean and tidy. Breakfast was a buffet which was kept well stocked with a large choice there was also an additional table service menu.
We had 1 bar meal, not too much choice but good quality and presentation and 2 dinners in the restaurant which were superb. The restaurant had a lovely ambience and once again staff were great. This was Al a Carte or set menu ( with good choices ). We opted for the set menu at £25 each for 3 courses plus wine ( good list ) and coffee. All food was very well presented and cooked to perfection. On my husbands birthday the waitress brought out his dessert with a candle and 'happy birthday' written round the plate - a lovely touch which was greatly appreciated.
Parking was £8 per night but given the location not bad. We obviously prefer free parking at a hotel but this was also used by the general public. Beware if you park under the covered area - I lifted my car boot and caught some wire netting covering a pipe running along the low roof - damaging the cars paint work.
Overall a charming hotel well appointed and full of history and character with excellent staff and good food.

Me and my husband stayed here with friends for new Years Eve, the location of the hotel is fantastic and Windsor is a great place to visit, we had a lovely lunch and drink in a cute old pub across the road. I can understand peoples comments about the rooms, I think it is pot luck really, we had a good size room with a very large bathroom in the main hotel and cannot complain, but our friends room which was next door was very small but it served its purpose for one nights stay, our other friend who is single stayed in the annexe as he is a smoker and his room was huge, the best room of the lot, cant understand the other persons comments on the annexe rooms as they appeared to be quite new and good value for money, this is not a 5 star hotel after all! I would say it is a good 3 star hotel. We all had a great New Year, the food was great, the staff worked really hard, I hope they were awarded for their hard work! Once dinner was over, the dancing went on till 2.30am which was great as none of us wanted an early night, late checkout till midday day was just what we needed after a brilliant night! Great value for money!

My husband, six-year-old son and I stayed at the Castle Hotel in May 2009, on our vacation to the UK. The hotel combines an older building which faces the street and newer more modern buildings in the back, where we were. The rooms were good sized, very comfortable beds, nice and clean, and it is literally right across the street from Windsor Castle. The hotel serves a full breakfast in the morning and we ate dinner there one evening, as well. The dinner was a bit pricey -- you probably could find better food at a better price elsewhere in town but with a small kid it was easier for us to eat in the restaurant. We found it extremely easy to get around town, whether to get the bus to Legoland, the double decker tourist bus to go around Windsor, stroll down to the Long Walk, or go down by the river over to Eton. You will no doubt be able to find less expensive accomodations in Windsor, but the Castle hotel will give you a good experience for your money.
