“Best in Windsor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2009

I stayed here for Valentines with my partner. We had a lovely room which although not huge was very cosy and decorated in a very english manner which was cool, rather than trying to make it trendy. Its a stones throw from the castle and ideally located on main street (not much noise from outside and we faced castle).

We dined in their main restaurant which was a-la-carte, one of the best meals weve ever had! Superb service, great value and food was amazing - well worth the money. Breakfast was equally as good and had everything you could want and more.

There was also a large car park to rear of hotel and this was very secure. Definetley a cut above the rest in Windsor and great value for your money.

The hotel is ideally located next to Windsor Castle and surrounding shops, restaurants and attractions, Eton is just a short and pleasant walk away. Hotel is steeped in history and the suite we stayed in was great although looking a little tired in places. Can highly recommend Castellano restaurant (across the road) for a great dinner - be sure to book a table at the weekend! The hotel has on-site parking which is very reasonably priced, we could leave our car until 2pm on the day of departure for no extra charge (£8 for 24 hours). Overall a great hotel with lots of character and unbeatable location.

Lovely hotel right in the centre of Windsor and opposite the castle. When we arrived on a busy Saturday afternoon the car park was very busy, but the lovely chap on car parking duty soon found us a parking place when he knew we were residents. The hotel is very old, but beautiful. Our room was very nice and clean, but slightly small, unfortunately we were at the back of the hotel with a view only of a brick wall, but extreemly quiet.
Nothing seemed too much trouble for any of the staff.

Stayed for 1 night, we were greeted with a smile at reception. We had a lovely room with a view of the castle. Had to pay for parking but it was well worth it. Walking distance to the shops which i liked. We had a meal in the restaurant in the evening, it was superb and the service was very good and well worth the money. We had a really enjoyable stay, and will return.

From the moment I arrived at the Mercure Castle hotel I felt “looked after”. Those who know Windsor will know how difficult it is to park anywhere near the castle. Here the hotel parking attendant directed me to the secure car park. Booking in was simple and fast. The facilities for business were as you would expect. Even though there were 3 other large events taking place in the hotel, this did not distract from the service given to our group at any time.
As for the food. There was not a single meal that I could find fault with. The variety and quality is outstanding.
The rooms are well furnished and the staff very helpful at all times.
As for the location. The hotel is right opposite Windsor Castle, what could be better. You are minutes from a pedestrian precinct for the usual high street shopping but even better, the refurbished themed Victoria Railway shopping area. This is an absolute delight to visit and get those unusual presents.
All in all a very recommended hotel

Stayed in this hotel mainly for the location, which is great, right across form the Castle which was the purpose for the vist for a weekend break. I booked the hotel and paid for using my Clucard vouchers as I think if I had paid money I would have been dissappointed. The room was as exprected with all the usuals, Breakfast room was small seeing as the hotel is not.. We went down just before the end every morning which was good as there was no waiting. The hotel had a wedding on the second night we stayed which got very out of hand, and in the morning we had a letter of apology from the manager, but many of the guests were not happy as quite rightly expected. Would probably try somewhere different next time as not greatly impressed. Oh and paying for parking is a bit cheeky seeing as it is for hotel guests this should be free!!

I was attracted to this hotel due to its location, and I wasn't disappointed, it is very close to the town centre and the castle. There is car parking, which is charged as I would expect in a town cetnre location. When we first arrived we thought there was no way they could find room for our car as it looks awfully cramped, but the ameable car park attendant found us a space no problem.

Front desk staff were helpful with booking taxis etc. However after we checked out we realised we had left something in the room and when we phoned up we kept getting told that we needed to sepak to the 'lost property' lady, who never seemed to be avialable and did not return our calls. Needless to say by the time we contacted her, our belongings had completely disappeared.

The room was fine - although slightly old fashioned with blankets on the bed. We were in an annexe at the back of the site, so no nice view unfortuantely. but everything was clean and a good sized room with a sofa, armchair and table.

The breakfast was adequate although we had a long wait for our eggs, which are cooked to order. It is overpriced so I wouldn't bother unless it is included in your tariff. The bar and restaurant looked lovely but we didn't use it.

As a location from which to explore windsor you can't go too far wrong, if you get a good deal, but don't expect a luxury hotel.
