“Perfect for a stay in Windsor”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

We really enjoyed our stay at the Mercure Windsor. It’s in a perfect location, being just minutes from everything, and our stay was memorable for all the right reasons.

The staff were very helpful in letting us stow our bags prior to check in, and bringing them up to the room when it was ready (before we arrived). It was our anniversary weekend and we were delighted by the fruit platter, chocolates and personalised card waiting for us in our room – such a nice touch, and very much appreciated!

We stayed in an Executive Double/Premier room, which was easily worth paying extra for. It was a huge room, with a good sized bathroom, and most importantly, an enormous four poster bed. We had a pleasant view over the High Street while not being disturbed by any noise at all. We had complimentary drinks, two pairs of slippers, but sadly only one dressing gown – we asked for an extra one after we checked into the room, but it never did arrive! We were so pleased by our anniversary surprise though, that we decided not to kick up a fuss.

Our breakfast the next day was not extraordinary by any means but there was plenty of choice and it was frequently replenished. We paid an extra £10 each for breakfast when we booked initially, which turned out to be rather expensive as we did not eat that much of it.

We had a slight problem as the Mercure system had not stored our breakfast booking, and we were initially queried about it when we arrived in the breakfast room. However, the staff handled it very well and the issue was easily resolved by producing our confirmation email.

Overall, it was a really enjoyable stay, and we would definitely come back.

Room Tip: Executive double/privilege room

With effect from the week commencing the 10th June the hotel is introducing car park charges for residents. The charge applicable to all guests bringing a car with them is £10 per day which is the best value parking available in Windsor.

The Windsor Castle Hotel is a short walk from the Central rail station and across the street from the Castle and a short distance from its entrance. The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating and the room was comfortable, clean, and very quiet (no view, but very quiet for a good night's sleep). The hotel bar/restaurant was cozy and inviting and served a nice selection for lunch. The breakfast was also very good. Everything is walking distance from the Windsor Castle Hotel i.e. castle, shops, boat ride. We would definitely stay there again and recommend the Windsor Castle Hotel.

We visited mid week for a romantic break to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed. We had booked dinner bed and breakfast in a huge "privilege" room. Now I am not usually a fan of old hotels and this one came with its fair share of "oldie worldie" features, however given the history of the hotel, none of this was important, in fact it enhanced the whole ambience. The receptionists were very welcoming and we were able to get into our room early, always a bonus! The room was huge, huge comfortable bed with great pillows and loads of cushions, temp controls, mini bar, coffee machine, fluffy dressing gowns, slippers and toiletries, apologies if anything missed - Lunch in the 18 lounge was superb, excellent start to our stay - having briefly mentioned it was our anniversary to the receptionist, when we returned from sight seeing, there was a lovely card under our door complete with confetti, lovely :) At dinner, we were greeted with two glasses of champagne to accompany our fantastic meal, totally unexpected and very welcomed - the food was excellent, very masterchef and tasted as good as it looked, as if that was not enough, when our desert arrived, the clever chef had decorated the plate with chocolate swirls and writing which said "Happy Anniversary" a love heart with raspberry sauce finished off the picture, absolutely stunning ! We asked to meet the chef to thank him and his team in person, and he obliged, thank you again Chef, really lovely touches <3 - Breakfast was incredible, the choice is huge from cold continental, cereals, fresh fruits and full English breakfast selection buffet style, there was also a breakfast menu if nothing on offer took your fancy, incredible value for money - Windsor is lovely with so much to see and do; we had a wonderful time in Windsor but our stay at the Castle hotel really made the trip special, we will return again ! Our thanks to all x

Room Tip: Privilege room if you can get one would be my first choice

I stayed here for a work shindig and had a great time with my other half. the staff were friendly and helpful, the free WiFi was a bonus and the food was excellent.
We had a spacious room with a view of a car park. That's the only negative point I can add to this review, everything else was clean, well presented and in good working order.
The hotel is in a great location, right by the castle and a short walk to the shops. If I go back to Windsor this will definitely be on my list of possible places to stay.

We stayed for a one night on Sunday, 19th May. Excellent value with voucher for dinner, bed and breakfast which included privilege room if available. We arrived before 10 a.m. and when we went into the reception to check if we could park, we were allowed to do so and in fact our room was already available. Unfortunately no upgraded room was available, however, we stayed in a very nice classic room which was comfortable and well equipped.

The breakfast was of excellent quality with a very good choice of fresh fruit, cereals, breads etc as well as cooked breakfast. The evening meal was very good, although after ordering we discovered they didn't include any potatoes. The waiter kindly ordered some roast potatoes as a side order to accompany the meals which were delicious.

Overall, the hotel is in a very convenient location and all the staff were extremely helpful and courteous and we thoroughly enjoyed our short stay.

Having stayed at a number of their hotels, we booked the Bank Holiday weekend at the Mercure, Windsor. As with all the others we have visited, they did not disappoint. The location is first class, situated on the High Street with the hotel virtually opposite Windsor Castle. It is surrounded by shops, coffee bars and pubs with everything literally a five minute walk away. The hotel dates back to around the 15th century and is steeped in history. The rooms, whilst not the biggest, were clean and had everything you would expect from a 4 star hotel. The free parking and wi-fi was a big plus. The staff, from the car park attendant to the receptionist, were all pleasant and polite and nothing seemed too much trouble. There was plenty of choice at breakfast and, whilst we did not eat in the restaurant, both nights looked busy and the menu was varied. The main bar, with its large lush sofas and easy chairs, was a great way to start and finish your evening. Another review said the hotel did not have a lift. Well we were located on the 3rd floor of what seemed to be the old building and, I can assure you, there is one. We had a fabulous Bank Holiday and I am sure we will visit Windsor again in the not too distant future. When we do, the Mercure will be the first place we contact regarding arranging accommodation. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Windsor is very close to Heathrow Airport so inevitably there is noise from aircraft. If you are a l...

This hotel is directly opposite the entrance to Windsor Castle close to the covered market and attractions ,allowing ease of access on foot. The mere fact it has a car park in the centre of Windsor is a big plus .The hotel staff were attentative ,nothing too much trouble, the bar/lounge a great place to slumber down in big chairs and watch the world ,waiters attention to detail excellent .The food was good and ample portions .Rooms had every facility, very neat and clean ,we would recommend this hotel ,it is a bit pricey but you are paying for location and the invaluable parking -but then again we got our weekend through voucher/deal site so halved the cost ,it is perhaps not a family hotel albiet the children there were well catered for.

Room Tip: Try for the newer rooms at the rear -front rooms albiet look onto the castle overview a very busy ma...
