“Great hotel for a weekend getaway!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2009

A friend and myself wanted a lovely quiet hotel to be pampered in for a weekend and it met all our expectations - set in a wonderful green area about a 5 minute drive from town it was very relaxing. Our room was spacious and clean and it overlooked the river. Breakfast was fantastic with a huge choice for selection. We dined at the hotel restuarant which was a bit on the expensive side but it was well worth the cost.
Spa was good but the pool was very small

Stayed here for a couple of weeks on business. This hotel is really inconsistent. Some of the staff are great, and others let it down. The bar staff did a great job of looking after me.

The food is old school, heavy hotel food. My room service experience of cold food was not great, but the they try hard in the main resutaurant, but the food is very heavy. Not for someone looking for a "lite bite". The wifi access is awful, and many things in the hotel dont seem to work properly e.g. my TV is not working.

The hotel is not close to town, but is right on the river. Good hotel for a couple of nights of business travel, but not well suited to the business traveller.

My husband and I stayed 2 nights for our wedding anniversary. First impressions weren't wonderful as the receptionist had our name incorrect and seemed to be sharing a private joke with her colleague - I also wasn't given much information about hotel facilities. Our room request had been heeded however and we had a great riverside view but were in a separate wing away from the original part of the hotel. The room was fine but needs a repaint as it was quite scuffed and damaged in a few areas. We did have a bottle of sparkling pink wine left in there which was a nice touch. There was a small fridge in the room which was handy but we did think they could make more of having these by leaving some fresh milk in there for the tea/coffee facilities as other hotels do instead of using that awful UHT milk.

The Oakleaf Leisure facilities were good although the pool too small for my liking as you couldn't do proper lengths in it - it was very popular with children though! I had a massage which was very good although the rooms for the spa side of the leisure facilites were pretty cramped and could do with more space. The same applies to the changing facilities. We used the gym which has a good range of equipment and friendly staff.

In terms of dining, we both thought the range of choice at breakfast was very good with many things you could order if you didn't fancy the buffet (e.g. kippers, smoked salmon & scrambled eggs, bacon sandwich etc). The quality was not fantastic but good enough and service efficient. The best dining experience however was dinner which was very good - it cost @£25 for 3 courses and was well presented with a wide choice of interesting and tasty dishes.

We used the hotel's 9 hole golf course which was fun - I'm a complete beginner but my husband plays regularly and we both were able to enjoy it although I think that was more because he was enjoying my attempts at playing rather than because it was a challenging course for him. One tip - if you intend on playing golf or using the tennis courts bring your own set of clubs and/or racquets and balls as they charge for hire of all these (£7 for 3 tennis balls!).

Wonderful hotel but avoid the rooms in the outbuildings. We could hear the people above our room all night. We did not sleep well. We needed a wheelchair and one of the concierges was very helpful unlike the one with grey hair.

We took my mother-in-law away for the weekend. It was for her 85th birthday. What a great place to stay! Firstly, the hotel is right on the Thames, green grassy banks sloping down to the river where you can even hire one of the hotel's electric boats which we did. Stunning location. Enjoyable boat trip on a very green and lovely part of the river. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. I think someone is getting the training and staff management very right there. The afternoon tea was good: home made scones, quality cream and jam - and outside under the umbrellas with views over the river and lawns. We enjoyed the dinner. The set menus were good value at £19.95 for two courses and £24.95 for three. One of us had dishes off the a la carte menu. All good. If I had to find one fault with the food, I'd say that breakfast was a bit weak in terms of quality of cooked foods but the range of available foods was very broad. The bedrooms were spacious, clean and well equipped. Room service and concierge staff were again very helpful and friendly. Lots of nice finishing touches. Yes, it was helped by the sunny, warm weather but I think it could be a snug spot for a winter break. I'd go back!

We stayed at the Oakley for 1 night and wish we stayed longer.
Our room was well equipped, lovely double bed 2 armchairs, and much larger than I expected.
We had b&b And evening meal.
We opted to have breakfast in the room, which arrived promptly and the evening meal was lovely.
The staff were very good and we would stay again.
