“Lovely hotel let down by the food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2013

When I first arrived I was thrilled to find such a beautiful hotel set in parkland leading down to the Thames. My room in the West Wing was beautiful with a view down the river. I had a large bed, loads of space in the room with table and comfortable chairs, coffee making facilities, fridge, iron & board, compact but clean bathroom with powerful shower over the bath. There was nice carpet on the bedroom floor, flat screen TV and good lighting. There is also a desk/dressing table with mirror. Two hair dryers were provided (one low power one in the bathroom) and plenty of wardrobe space. The bed was very comfortable.

The conference facilities were great. Coffee stations outside each room, nuts & seeds, old fashioned sweets - remember fruit salad, love hearts and refreshers? Mini tubs of ice cream appeared one afternoon and bowls of ice with cans of cold drinks nestling in it. Cookies and pastries often appeared and all this helped to brighten up the working environment we were in.

Breakfast had all the usual suspects and was served buffet style. There was no butter and marmalade on the table and we were not offered tea and toast until we went to find someone who could get it for us. Given that they don't have to serve you the hot food, the least they could do is make sure all the other bits are dealt with in a professional manner.

Lunches were quite good with steak pie, pasta, chicken in sauces etc and a cheese board as well as dessert.

The set meal we had in the evening was awful. Mushroom soup with an oil slick on top - tasted disgusting. Then sea bass on risotto. After hearing that some colleagues had eaten risotto the night before and been sick, I did not risk it, but the following day I discovered a larger number had spent the night in their bathrooms.

This is a lovely hotel, but until they improve the food I will not be returning.

Truly a gem of a hotel,

it is very nice to report that for the first time in what seems like ages i can say hand on heart that i could find no fault with either building or staff. Super location in it's own grounds at the side of the river Thames. i stayed in an executive room, excellent bed and pillows made for a good nights sleep. i have only 2 grumbles and they are grumbles not complaints, the hotel bar is very expensive and breakfast is served as a buffet, for my taste a buffet style meal is never hot enough.

Spent one night at this hotel, wish we were able to stay longer. The hotel has appearance of age which seems deliberate in order to maintain the character of the main building. Our room was large and comfortable though showing some signs of wear. A good nights sleep was followed by a good breakfast. We came down just before the end of breakfast service at 9.30 (Thursday) but there was plenty of hot food still in the heaters. The staff were very helpful. The only 'down' was the fact that the cleaning staff did not seem to look under the service station, which was cluttered with paper and general detritus. The garden and facilities were a delight with a small golf course, swimming pool and gymn. Very near Windsor, Eaton and Dorney.

Room Tip: We had a superior double. Overlooking the Thames.

We stayed at this hotel for our anniversary... we were greeted on check in with champange or orange juice! the staff were excellent and very helpful.. our room was an excecutive room that was large and tastefully furnished..
We had breakfast in our room the next day, which was lovely.
Set in a perfect location and hotel full of charm! would definately go back.

Room Tip: We opted for an excecutive room that was fabulous!

We spent three nights at this wonderful hotel for my birthday. We wanted an hotel near Windsor and at just under 4 miles away this hotel is perfect.
When we arrived the reception staff were polite and we were offered a glass of champagne (well it would be rude not too)!
Our room was in the west wing and was superb. I had read the reviews about getting a room in the main building but this was lovely, quiet, big and clean.
We had a bar snack that evening which was good.
Breakfast was plentiful and peaceful.
All staff were so polite and friendly and I cannot say a bad thing about anyone or anything.
We went into Windsor on the Saturday and this cost £9 one way in a taxi which reception happily book for you.
We went into London to see a show on Sunday and was told the taxi would be £14 one way. We asked again at reception about Slough train station and parking. A tip if going into London by train on the weekend is to drive to Slough and the parking cost £4.30 which was a complete bargain and what a saving. Alistair on reception was more than happy to check the Internet for us.
The grounds are lovely although on this occasion a little too cold to appreciate.
The gym is really good and the swimming pool a decent size, if parents don't stand and chat at the end!
I cannot say enough about this hotel and will definitely be returning.

Room Tip: We stayed in the west wing and had no complaints. Although there was now view it was lovely and clea...

Stayed here on a weekend break booked through Superbreaks. The hotel is a wonderful old building and the grounds front the River Thames. Unfortunately the weather was not good so we were unable to take advantage of them but would imagine in summer they'd be a very attractive place to sit with a drink or snac

Our room was enormous and the bed was comfortable. Bathroom good but could do with an update - however we had everything we needed and there was plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. It was very cold in the room when we arrived and we had to turn the radiator on - it might have been a nice touch to have warmed the room beforehand but once switched on it didn't take long to get warm.

All the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful - our bathroom heated towel rail was not working and we reported it when we went to dinner, 15 minutes later a member of staff sought us out in the bar to tell us that they had tried to fix it (maintenance had gone home for the night) but were not able to. They offered to change rooms for us if we liked but we were fine with it and the towel rail was working when we returned from breakfast next morning.

The bar and lounges are very welcoming - bar prices a bit expensive but you're paying for the lovely surroundings and good service.

Food was good - dinner on the first night was included in our deal but we enjoyed it so much we decided to dine at the hotel on the second night as well. We were slightly surprised that breakfast was a buffet - would have expected a cooked to order breakfast at a hotel of this standard, but the food was all hot and of very good quality. The head waiter and waiter at dinner were excellent.

Would like to return - preferably in better weather.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for something different, something special and who wants to be indulged.
I have just returned from a fabulous weekend at the Oakley Court Hotel with my daughter, this was a special weekend as part of her 21st birthday celebrations and we were not disappointed. We were greeted at the door by the Concierge and smoothly checked in at reception by a very pleasant and polite young man, no waiting, no fussing, and within minutes we were settling into our fantastic bedroom.
Our bedroom was in the the chapel area (well, from the outside it looked like a chapel) it was massive, plenty of room for me and a 21 year old who does not know what travelling light means! The room was exquisitely decorated, quirky and had everything you could possibly need, luxury toiletries and soft, skin loving towels, crisp fresh bedding with choice of pillows (we slept like logs), plenty of hanging space, lots of lights, as well as thick curtains to ensure a great nights sleep and hotel and local information beautifully presented on the desk. Everything we needed was there and I'm sure if there was anything else we required the staff would do their utmost to find it for us, they were all so helpful and friendly.
Breakfast both mornings of our stay was lovely, plenty of choice and attentive staff who were ready to help but never intrusive, we spent a huge amount of time leisurely chilling during breakfast and never felt rushed, members of staff were happy to help us plan our day and offer suggestions to make sure we made the most of our time at the hotel.
We had spa treatments booked in the newly furbished Escape Spa....what a treat, I recommend the hot stone massage, one of the best I've ever had followed by a well deserved chill in the relaxation room with soothing music and delicate ambience........a little piece of heaven.
Dinner on both nights was formal enough to feel like a special occasion yet relaxed enough to be enjoyed, and the food was out of this world, cooked to perfection......I recommend the melt in the mouth dark chocolate brownie with raspberry sorbet, yummmm. The staff in the restaurant were amazing, excellent service delivered with style, humour and professionalism.
The swimming pool was lovely, the area is fresh and very clean with large soft towels provided for hotel guests, As a very keen swimmer I went swimming twice on Saturday and the area was as clean at 8'o'clock in the morning as it was at 6'o'clock in the evening and the staff still as friendly! We didn't use the Gym (though after those puddings I'm sure we should have done!) but it looked pretty smart and well appointed.
I am looking to book to return to the Oakley Court again very soon, I am looking forward to being able to get out and enjoy the beautiful gardens and river Thames next time, admiring them from the beautiful, warm drawing room was my limit this time.
I hope you enjoy your stay at the Oakley as much as my daughter and I did.
