“Well taken care of and town centre location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

The hotel is right in the middle of the town and being Windsor very busy. We had pre-booked a parking space which is in an underground car park underneath the hotel (cost £25 per day). This was about the only disadvantage - the difficulty in finding the parking and also the fact that I think there aren't that many spaces so from a business point of view could be difficult. However, the service we received was outstanding, efficient, caring, professional and responsive. The decor is very subtle and beautifully decorated for Xmas. The rooms are good, clean, comfortable and fine to work from. Lighting/mirrors could be improved a bit. Breakfast delicious and freshly cooked. Meeting room good but the one we were allocated was right off the reception area which meant the delegates once out of the room didn't have a very private area to talk. All in all it's a lovely hotel and would also be wonderful for a weekend break as it was right opposite the castle, lots of lovely shops, cafes and restaurants within a very short walk. I think it is probably more leisure than business suited. Would visit again.

Room Tip: Car parking might be an issue and expensive. Come by train (station 2 mins walk from hotel)

I booked this hotel for a present for my sisters Ruby wedding anniversary and I could not have chosen any better. The bedrooms were excellent very modern and clean. The bathroom was excellent. My husband was very pleased the bedroom had a Bose iPhone speaker. The staff are very friendly and though we didn't have any problems I would imagine are very quick to sort them out! The location could not be any better rite opposite the castle. We had a meal in the restaurant and was not disappointed. The breakfast again was lovely.

My wife and I stayed here in November 2012 at the recommendation of friends who were getting married at the Guildhall. You could not ask for a more convenient location - you could literally roll of bed and land on the Guildhall steps - plus you're right next to the castle and the Long Walk.

Check-in was easy - we'd paid in advance to get a discount rate - and the room was very comfortable - nice space, quiet, big shower. The bed was comfy, the pillows were OK but my one complaint is that the duvet was not big enough for the size of the bed. Since my wife and I tend to sleep pretty close to the edges of each side of the bed, we need a duvet that extends over the edges to avoid gaps/cold spots. This has not been an issue at any other hotel we've stayed at, but at the Macdonald, we found that we were fighting for the duvet and had to adjust from our preferred sleeping positions to avoid one of us feeling short-shrifted.

The bar was lively on the Friday night we stayed there and the restaurant got busier as the night went on - when we ate at 6:30pm, we were the only ones in there but by about 9pm, it was quite full. The food was good - I had the fish and chips which were tasty but small for the price - one piece of battered fish (albeit good quality) and about 10 very tasty thick-cut chips. The chips really were very good but I wanted more. Both of us left our meals feeling a bit unsatisfied and so ordered more food at the bar later - the meat platter was excellent but again when we ordered a bowl of chips, we were disappointed by the quantity. At GBP3.25 per portion, we expected a bit more than 10 or 15 chips. Given how tasty they were, they didn't last long with our friends around. That said, since we live in America, our appetites could simply be based on the giant portions we get here and so perhaps we're less used to the smaller European plates.

Anyway, chips-droughts and duvet fighting aside, we really enjoyed our stay in this new, modern and comfortable hotel. It certainly was a step up from the much older/shabbier feeling of the Hart and Garter down the street.

Room Tip: Given how lively the bar was, I'd recommend a room on a higher floor to avoid noise issues.

We booked a special offer for £109.00, this included 1 nights stay, either 2 glasses of Champagne or a Bottle of Wine with a sharing platter (a board with a selection of cold cuts and smokes fish etc) as well as breakfast.

I noticed that they only have a small number of rooms with baths, so I called ahead and requested one, the gentleman I spoke to was really pleasant and very helpful.

The hotel is very smart and the staff were very helpful, the room was classy, modern and functional, with very nice lavender scented soaps.

Over all, we were very pleased, the only gripe was being woken up to the sound of the plumbing in room above us, it was a sound like gushing water, I think it was when they emptied the bath.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the Castle.

We stayed here in August for three nights after a long haul flight from Australia and had two adjoining rooms to cater for a a family of five. Have to say that this is actually one of the best hotel experiences that I have had especially in the UK (i'm English) The service was impeccable but not over bearing, just really helpful, friendly, attentive staff. The breakfasts were incredibly tasty and great value - healthy and extensive menu options. There are lots of nice touches in the rooms and everything from the robes to the hairdryer to the toiletries and bedding felt a little luxurious and indulgent. Couldn't rate the superb room service menu, we ordered a couple of freshly cooked curry dishes and they were delicious. We also organised baby sitting through the hotel and although this is not something that they offer as an actual service they were more than happy to help us out and put us in touch with someone trustworthy. The parking is expensive and limited but we knew this was going to be the case before hand through othe reviews that we read - concierge go out of their way to help you get a spot and attend to luggage. Overall couldn't recommend this hotel highly enough and we were really pleasantly surprised by how excellent it was. Also loved the beautiful black and white photography in the hotel rooms of local sights, swans on the Thames etc

I booked a 24hr delegate package for a large group of people at this hotel and cannot have been happier with the quality and service. Rooms were excellent - beautifully decorated with all the amenities you would need, comfy towels and bathrobes, good complimentary toiletries and high quality bedding. The addition of a small balcony was a lovely touch. Complimentary wifi throughout was much appreciated (whilst i believe free wifi should be standard in hotels like this, it infuriates me that so many high-value chains still charge extortionate prices for it).

The checking in process was quick and simple, and the majority of our guests were able to do so prior to the 2pm check-in time advertised. All staff were friendly, courteous and helpful, and nothing was too much trouble for them. The meeting rooms were great and the presence of a proper coffee machine for delegates went down very well.

The food was of a very high quality, with both lunch and breakfast served buffet-style in the restaurant (although you could order cooked items for breakfast as well). As we were a large group, the hotel kindly put us in a private dining room for dinner, and put together a special menu. The sharing platters in particular were delicious and generously laden with a range of meats, fish and vegetarian options. The desert sharers were also quite spectacular, with a wide variety of cakes, sweets, tarts and other treats.

My only slight complaint was how expensive the drinks in the bar were, but in this area at this type of hotel, that wasn't too surprising.

All in all, i would highly recommend this hotel for large business groups, but imagine it would be just as cosy and welcoming for individuals or smaller groups in town for leisure. I will be using this hotel for business purposes again!

Room Tip: Avoid the first floor if you can - quite a few meeting rooms are on this floor so you may be woken u...
