“Quite Impressed!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

I had visited this pub/restaurant on a couple of occasions previous to our Christmas visit!
After extensive refurbishment, I am surprised this little haven was not sooner rewarded for its excellence of food and service!

A large group of us attended a Christmas dinner and I was very pleased with the quality and freshness of the food. It all arrived HOT and not overcooked! All three courses were to individual satisfaction.
I was however, surprised that the owner of the establishment had to wait the tables along with younger members of staff! More staff needed although, on this occasion, they did seem to cope with the parties!

I will be returning for a second helping of the Christmas Menu next year as the prices were very suitable too!
Excellent chef....Try it!!

“Worth a try”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2012

This was a family meal on a busy Saturday night in the pub with 3 other large groups and filled with smaller tables. Our party of 12 was meeting for a pre-christmas get together.

We had pre-ordered from the Christmas menu 3 course for £21.95 including coffee and mini mince pie.

The place was packed when we arrived, we were seated by an older gentlemen who turned out to be the owner. Very polite greeting.

The starters came out more or less together soup was hot, cold things cold and all seemed to have a reasonable amount on the plate. My wife had goats cheese with beetroot she had too much cheese but better that than too little. My stuffed mushrooms did not look that inviting as everything looked very brown, however, no problem with the cooking or the taste.

I had turkey as this was my only Christmas meal this year, there was a good helping of turkey and all the bits you would expect came with it, roast spuds were crunchy and fluffy inside. Wife had the pork and this was well cooked and again a good helping. Veg was nicely cooked just a nice crunch without being hard and boiling hot, extra veg came out as it was obvious that it was running out fast.
No moans from the table.

Brulee was very rich, wifes cheesecake was also rich, the slice was over generous.

Tea and coffee, mince pies all disappeared.

No moans from a diverse range of people.

Staff were attentive but not over bearing, one visit per course to ask if all was good and they kept an eye on us to see if we had finished and only came over when the last person had completed her meal. No delays when each course came out and no one served warm food.

Drinks were reasonably priced typical of pubs in this area.

I'm not sure what this place is like the rest of the year but they were managing well on a very busy Saturday night and we, as a couple, and as part of a wider family group will be happy to come back again.

£21.95 three courses, worth a try!

“Good Pub Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2012

A busy and friendly pub with really excellent service. The fish that comes with the fish and chips option is enough for two people and is cooked in a good cripsy batter. All the other food we had was very tasty and reasonably priced. We went two nights running!

“good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2012

Reasonable menu of traditional British food and reasonably priced. Fish and cips are great and you can get as take away if you wish. Bar and restaurant are well maintained and staff are friendly and service efficient. Have had both lunch and dinner and quality and service is the same although much busier during the evening. Place doesn't look much from the outside and the location is nothing to write home about but overall an enoyable place to eat without taking out a mortgage.
