“Good hotel, nice bar food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

Stayed here one night on business in January. Found the hotel was just what was needed - ie quick, efficient check in, pleasant bar with good choice of drinks and the bar food was very good quality with lots of choice. The following morning, had breakfast in the restaurant which was also very good, and no queuing.
I situated out of Maidenhead town centre - so very convenient if driving as plenty of parking, We arrived by train, but only 15 mins in a taxi from the station/town centre

Our booking was for 14 rooms. We were given a booking code where all guests could book their own rooms and pay on check out. Group bookings staff were very helpful and provided a competitive rate for B&B. Check in was seamless. We booked an executive room (218)which was spacious, clean and tidy. Minor criticisim is that the hair dryer is fixed in the drawer and does not stretch to see in the mirror. Plenty of hot water in the shower with good water pressure. Nice to see the door closers working and providing a 'door banging' free nights sleep.

We had a light bite to eat in the restaurant which was very tasty. Due to the snow, the hotel was quiet on the Friday evening so service was quick. This also meant we had the pool to ourselves which was clean and tidy although the changing rooms could do with a bit of attention.

The hotel is just a minute from the A404(M) and a short hop in to windsor. There is a filling station adjacent to the hotel for a handy local store.

The bar area is very spacious with plenty of seating but does lack a bit of atmosphere. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty with a good variety of cooked and fresh fruit and cereals to choose from.

Now for my niggle... with a group of 25 people we used the bar area over our two day stay quite a bit and when we came to settle the bill, it was anything but straight forward. There is a service charge added to all drinks and food and although this is discretionary, the amout that you sign for at the bar is not the amount you pay. The reception staff easily provided all the signed receipts but we were still not able to make the total invoice tally with the receipts. The staff did their best to to explain, but after 20 minutes my husband felt as if he had completed a full audit of the hotel and was none the wiser. The service received was very good and we did not begrudge the service charges, but please can I pay what I sign for.

Tiny niggles that makes my rating very good, would I go back and recommend this hotel - Yes.

Thanks for the review and the 4 stars. Glad that you found out team welcoming and prices were value for money. You'll be glad to know we have recently been having quite a lot of work done to improve our heating in the bedrooms so I'm confident future guests will not have similar problems.
Thanks again for the positive review

Stayed here for one night and that was enough, really. My room was clean, tidy and comfortable. A large flat-screen TV helped while away the evening, but there was no free wi-fi which is poor, in this day and age. Bathroom was clean too - no complaints there. As it was snowing, I decided not to eat out. What a mistake. The minestrone soup, I'm convinced, was thrown together using a tin of Heinx Spaghetti in tomato sauce, a tin of chopped plum tomatoes, and last night's leftover vegetables chopped up. Absolutely ghastly. The steak was OK, but the hollandaise sauce was separating and oily. Horrible. To cap it all, the bill came with the 12% 'discretionary' service charge already added ot the bill. I removed it.

No problems with the accomodation - just don't eat here.

Rooms were large but queen beds are small for two people! Dinner was bland but bar had a good atmosphere. There was a big party in the hotel and like any hotel it was noisy in the early hours of the morning. The hotel had really made an effort to set up a kids playroom in a ground floor bedroom.

Went there with friends making two tables for the evening meal. Arrived mid afternoon had lunch at the hotel which was a bit hectic because of the numbers of customers they were having to deal with, but they were very respectful and gave us some tit bits to munch while we were waiting. The evening started with a champayne reception and there was a bar for those who prefered other drinks.Had a great evening, the food was tasty, served hot, including the soup and very proffessionally considering the type and caliber of the hotel. They offered all the trimmings you would expect and at very reasonable prices both the cost of the whole evening and the bar/ wine prices. The music was mixed but the DJ had people up and on the dance floor all of the evening. The full english breakfast lived up to our expectations and was served till mid day.
The staff were extremely helpful and nothing seemed to be to much bother, all in all we had a great night and that was the opinion of the whole group.
A big thank you to all who helped to start our new year superbly
