“Beautiful views and helpful staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2009

A fabulous, unique location, right opposite the Cathedral. We only stayed one night but thoroughly recommend the place. Our room was clean, modern and had every amenity. Breakfast was excellent, with the eggs and bacon being freshly cooked rather than left around buffet style. As a light sleeper, I was a bit worried the bells would wake me up but they did not. In fact, it was wonderfully peaceful. We found the staff very helpful and friendly.

What a location - within the walls of Salisbury cathedral - a unique location!

Stayed here for the one night. Insitutional, so felt a little like a Youth Hostel - long empty corridors, cafeteria type food, basic accommodation, but what a view! Right onto the north side of the cathedral.

I had an ensuite room with an enormous bathroom (bath, shower, basin, loo). The bedroom was small but had hanging space and a table. The room was very quiet as there were offices on that floor which were empty in the evening. It has a kettle and tea/coffee.

There is a quiet chapel for those who enjoy a few minutes silence and a TV room with videos. Its a Christian establishment but that is not in your face at all. You can come and go as you please.

Downstairs is a common room with a drinks machine and a bar which is open on request. It seems a lot of conferences, both day and residential take place there so as a lone traveller you might feel out of place if its just you and a large group staying.

Its worth noting that the cathedral gates are locked at 1130pm so this accommodation is not suitable if you want to be out very late

  • Liked — Location, friendliness
  • Disliked — No TV in the room.

The accommodations may not be luxurious, but you couldn't want a better location for a visit to Salisbury. Sarum College was once a theological college. It is now an ecumenical college, but has accommodation facitilies that are available to the general public. The facilities look a little warn in spots, but are undergoing renovations and upgrading, including the installation of an elevator.

It is across the road from Salisbury Cathedral in the cathedral close. On-site parking. We had a large, comfortable room. Sink in room, but toilets, showers, tubs down the hall. (A few en suites are available.) Not too many in residence during our October 2005 stay, so never had to wait.

A very generous buffet hot & cold breakfast is included in the rate. Dinner (very good) available for an extra fee some nights. Very helpful staff. Was perfect for our 2-night stay.

We're delighted you enjoyed your stay and hope you will come again. Since your last visit, Sarum College has undergone many improvements:

1) lift project complete
2) complete renovation of five ensuite rooms with elegant, modern decor and stunning, uninterrupted views of Salisbury Cathedral
3) refurbishment of Hamilton and Burnet conference rooms

We look forward to welcoming you again.
