“Easy and friendly stop-over near Salisbury”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2013

I'm not really a bed-and-breakfast person but this AA 4 star B&B has most of the attributes you would expect in a small hotel. Just off the busy A36 Salisbury to Wilton road, many of the rooms are clustered around a small courtyard that borders on sports fields. The spire of Salisbury Cathedral can be seen about two miles away, and there are paths to walk there along the river. The rooms are very clean and comfortable (but not noise-proofed) and the home-cooked breakfast and buffet are excellent. There are several pubs close by for a bite to eat in the evening if you don't want to drive into the city centre - I tried the Horse and Groom about 3/4 of a mile's walk away, but it wasn't anything to write home about. The Cricket Field House's price is reasonable, the staff friendly, and I imagine that in the summer, the garden is a lovely place to sit in the evenings. I would stay again if needing to over-night close to Salisbury (or about 11 miles from Stonehenge).

I have stayed here on a few occassions when I am in Salisbury for work, and as a lone female I have always been made to feel very welcome and safe. The service is excellent and the rooms are very comfortable. Varied choice for breakfast, will be staying again in the near future! Lovely place

Hi... Just spent a night at the Cricket Field house guest house... I came to salisbury with my daughter to see the Christmas market, Cathedral and Stonehenge... We had a lovely warm welcome and were given a very nice room, plenty of space, very clean and had everything we needed... The beds were really comfy, feather duvets and nice linen... Nice little en-suite shower room with a good shower... We've just had a lovely, and very plentiful breakfast, nothing was too much trouble for the owners, they were very attentive and helpful!... We would highly recommend it for hospitality, location and the warm welcome we were given... Will definitely stay again if in this area.

Thank you :)

Room Tip: We stayed in room 3 which is a twin room with a lovely view of the garden:)

Even before our stay, an Email request from me was treated really courteously. We then had a wonderful, warm welcome, and our room was spotlessly clean and comfortable. For breakfast, which was included in the very reasonable price, there was a good selection of fruit and cereal, as well as an excellent hot choice, including salmon or kippers. It was as good as some 4 star hotels in which I have stayed. Service was extremely attentive and helpful - it felt as if nothing would be too much trouble.

This hotel is on the outskirts of the town and situated a busy road. You’ll need a car to walk into the beautiful old town centre of Salisbury on a rainy day. Our room was comfortable and serviced every day and the decor was soothing to the eye. This hotel appears to have a constant stream of guests and visitors who book out the meeting rooms there. It provides a good base from which to explore the beauty of the Wilshire countryside and the New Forest.
The owners/managers deliver on efficiency but certainly not on warmth or attentiveness to guests’ needs. Service lacks graciousness and even the faintest hint of caring. If you do not want the high cholesterol-high salt offering of the standard bacon and eggs or desiccated high sugar cereal flakes for your morning breakfast, you will need to buy your own breakfast. When asked for fresh fruit, the owner said there was none available but reluctantly offered to supply fruit preserved in syrup. Local shops offer a plentiful supply of delicious fresh fruit, yogurts, and cheeses from the area and interesting health breads. There was no attempt or even an inkling of willingness to provide an alternative to the breakfast on offer or a discount on the fee for the bed and breakfast tariff. Comfortable accommodation. Good location. Frosty guest relations.
Bring your own breakfast if you want a healthy alternative to a fry up.

Yet again we stayed at the Cricket Field House to visit family and yet again it was spot on.
The communication between myself and Margaret via email was excellent, confirming our booking and arrival time.
The room was comfortable and very clean with a view of the garden and ducks.
The breakfast was very good as was the service and we look forward to our next visit.
