“Od Worlde Charm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2013

This hotel was built in about 1260 as a hotel for the masons who built Salisbury Cathedral, and has been a hotel ever since, probably the longest continuous use of a hotel in the world. It has, however, been extensively modernised since! It was clean and comfortable, the food was good, and the staff were pleasant and helpful. It will appeal to those who prefer blankets to a duvet!

Food was fine room fine location good but I have never slept on a harder bed. The room was warm the bathroom spacious. The courtyard was great for eating out on a mild evening. All was good until I got into bed.

Lovely old hotel with lots of character and charm. Very close to city centre attractions and shops. My room 37 was a little dated and positioned at the front of the Hotel. Very noisy on a Saturday night !! The room was large, clean, comfortable, however I thought the décor was very dated. The heating/ plumbing also needed some attention, with the toilet only being able to flush once every hour. I felt the room was overpriced, no free toiletries only hand wash/soap from a large bottle. Tea and coffee were provided and some extremely small flap jacks. I loved the charm of this hotel and believe if some effort was put in to update rooms this would be a four star accommodation. The history and friendly, helpful staff of the hotel makes up for the drab overpriced room.

Room Tip: If travelling on a Saturday avoid front rooms such as 37, too noisy!! Or take earplugs

This is a beautiful old hotel ideally situated in the centre of Salisbury so convenient for shops, eating places and ,of course, the cathedral . It was purpose built for the workers who constructed the cathedral and manages to retain old world charm , comfort and elegance.

Room Tip: Try and book a room overlooking the courtyard as otherwise there might be some traffic noise if over...

Weird decor. Wooden trains, teddies on beds. Five different patterns going on in the same room. No shampoo etc and soap screwed to the wall. However, staff delightful (apart from the receptionist, who pointed me, a disabled female, to the shops for shampoo, in a very gruff manner and patronisingly calling me 'dear'). The absolute BEST things about the hotel are the courtyard and restaurant. The chef is amazingly creative. Reasonably priced and delicious. BTW. It is an untruth that the car park is for disabled users (as written by manager on a previous post) I am disabled and was refused entry!?
