A quiet little place, not many rooms, and had clean and comfortable facilities.
From the road, the New Inn was easy to find. It is located a block from the main road, and bus stop. It was in the village of Winterbourne Monkten, and not in actual Avebury, although it was very close. The rooms were nice, not large but comfortable. They were clean and had tea and coffee. They had tv, a full bathroom, and a nice view of classic English country-side from almost every window.
There is a pub on the first level. While in the pub, we were told that it would be worth our time to visit the parish church Saint Mary Magdalene.
It was true; it was absolutly worth the walk to see the nine-hundred year old church. The tombstones in the well-kept graveyard that were still legible, dated back to the seventeen-hundreds. Many of the others were ivy covered, and obviously much older. The walk takes you through the small village on a personal tour at your own pace. It's hard to get lost there, because there are only two or three roads all together.
Inside the church, there were post-cards, and brochures for sale.
Our family of two adults and two teenagers were happy to have found the New Inn.
Not too far from the inn, the Avebury stone circles stand, and have been for some time. There are a couple of museums enclosed in the circles, and you can walk through them, along with the sheep (be sure to watch were you stop).
