Stayed two nights on business and was not impressed. The room was shabby, dirty in places, last decorated about 25 years ago, no bath, no hot water for the shower. Only one of the 4 light switches operated any lights , consequently there were no lamps/reading lights available, the main lights or nothing. No bedside table either.

The pool was OK although not very big.

The food was excelllent on my first night, unfortunately the risotto I ate on the secong night was so greasy it was inedible. It was swimming in oil, I poured a saucer full of grease of it, mopped it wath paper towels and still couldn't much of it. The bit I did eat reappeared later.

A shame as it could be a really nice hotel with a bit of updating.

I have stayed at Fieldways twice with several girlfriends for the £105 overnight package in 2007.
I must say that on each occasion we had a really good time and thought that for the price it was an excellent deal..
The food was very good, the staff very pleasant and we enjoyed all the treatments and facilities. The rooms were very adequate for our needs ,. All of us were surprised at how much was included in the price.
We are definitely thinking of returning next year.

“Fine”

Very nice from outside. Country house look. Sadly the reception brings you back down to earth. Just a desk in the middle of a small room.

Room was small but ok. Resturant is nice with dark wood all around. Food was excellent.

Pool and gym etc are great to have.

Served the purpose of a one night stay.

“Delusions of grandeur”

Fieldways Hotel & Health Club

The Fieldways thinks it is a lovely country retreat but it falls far short of the basic facilities expected from a hotel. I was staying for 2 nights on business and almost checked out after the first night. The hotel seems to be run by snooty middle aged women with little service training. The breakfast was inedible - a solid lump of microwaved scrambled eggs with burnt bacon. There were only two of us in the dining room and this was cooked to order. The bedroom had a skylight with no blind and the decor is tired and shabby. The bathroom had a corner bath but no shower. No offer of a newspaper, no notepad, teletext or any of the niceties you expect. No reception staff either morning.
On the plus side, the evening meal was good, and I had a lovely massage in the Spa.
With a bit more effort and investment the Fieldrways could be the nice hotel it thinks it is.

Although the food and treatments were above average the package was let down badly by the standard of the hotel room.

The 2 rooms we had were a Health and Safety disaster waiting to happen - Shelves held on by blutack, no hot water on the Sunday evening so showered in cold water, very dusty and cobwebs everywhere and trip hazards in the form of frayed carpets.

The food was plentiful and well cooked on both evenings but the lunch provided was exactly the same on both days!!!!

The staff were very good however but unfortunately could not compensate for the shoddy state of the rooms.

Apparently some of the other rooms are in a better condition (according to staff) but we could not find where they were from talking to other guests.

We would use the Health Club and eat at this hotel but would not stay again until the rooms have been refurbished.
