“Great Atmosphere, Cracking Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2011 via mobile

Have eaten here many times. Seems better value for money when there s more than two of you as you can NEVER finish the dishes you order. The mojito s served here are the best I've ever had! You need to be patient as you can't book, you ll sit and wait in the bar upstairs.... Difficult to plan a meal when you want lots of people to attend ( birthday etc....) but the atmosphere and food make it worth the effort and wait. Love the casual, informal cosy style....... Hope you do too!

“Great food, great atmosphere.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2011

You must try the mojitos before your tapas. Proper mojitos and proper tapas. A very good selection of authentic tapas in rustic surroundings. Food could do with being a bit hotter (temperature), apart from that, fantastic!

“Simply the best Tapas in Leeds”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2011

Having read reviews of Viva Cuba by a local food critic I had high hopes for it based on this hoping that as so often is the case the place praised so highly turns out to be a bit of a flop. First of all we phoned up to reserve a table and we were informed that they did not do reservations and we simply turned up and would be seated when a table was free. Undetered we headed down one Friday night and arrived at a old bank branch just outside the centre of Leeds parking was good opposite in Cardigan fields so good start it would get better we arrived at the door and the Viva Cuba was absoloutly buzzing with cheerful laughter the sound of Cuban music in the air and a handful of smiley people outside waiting for there tables .
Once inside the interior appeared to be entirely candle lit with the candles being held in old Cuban rum bottles very Cuban they recycle everything there I thought, the interior was adorned with cuban memorabila of all kinds and chalk boards for the specials, we were greeted at the bar by a smiley chap who took our name and informed us that he had a table free in about three quarters of an hour would we like a drink or we could go to the bar upstairs for a drink these too were very busy and the atmosphere was brilliant but not wanting to drink before our meal we headed over kirkstall road for a game of ten pin bowling over the road which we had booked in advanvce prempting a wait. Once we arrived back we were informed our table was ready within 5 mins sat down and given our menus ,drinks orders swiftly followed and the decisions started and boy the choice on the menu and the specials board, verity was really good and price excellent .The time melted away and the food came in what seamed to be perfect timing and that also melted away as the conversation flowed every mouthful a delight to the senses.
So after 10 Tapas and a round of drinks later the damage was a very reasonable to my mind £59 we went away nicely full having enjoyed one of the best meals in a long time this place reallly is a must if your in Leeds it is to my mind Excellent regardless of price range it has it all Food -Brilliant , Atmos- buzzing and Happy,Service - quick efficent smiley and accomdating as I said Simply the Best !

“buzzing and busy”

I'm not a huge fan of tapas when you're in small groups but we managed to order a good variety of dishes for a good price. All very tasty.

can feel a bit dark inside though
