As one of the longest established Leeds restaurants, we thought we would give this a bash. Having tried Kendalls, and La Grillade on previous occassions.
We chose this place because the Menu Du Soir looked really appealing, and at £25.95 per head, for 3 courses and half a bottle of wine each, sounded like the ideal pre theatre dinner.
I had been past this place on many occassions. It is just on Quebec Street, a short walk from the railway station and Queens Hotel, so nice and centrally located.
The restaurant is actually in the cellar of a massive old building, with the entrance at the far end of the building just down a little side road.
Very tasteful inside. We were warmly welcomed by the french waiter, who offered us drinks while we perused the menu, which is written up on blackboards in the bar area.
Myself and the Mrs went for the deep fried brie with pepper and mango chutney. and what a good choice. decent portion of cheese, with a sauce to die for.
When it came to main, Mrs W. opted for the glazed pork shank, which was massive, and apparently perfectly cooked.
Now my Mrs has a decent appetite, but it beat her.
I had the braised lamb belly, which again was a decent portion, really delivious, and enjoyed to the full.
Both dishes were served with a nice bowl of veg.
As she was nearly finished off by the main, she who must be obeyed had the sorbet, shich unlike others she had had, which can be a little tasteless, were packed with citrus flavours.
I couldn't help myself, as I liked the sound of the Amaretto Dark Chocolate & Ginger Nut Torte with lemon Cream....oh yes, it was as good as it sounds.
For my half bottle of wine, I went for Sauvingon Blanc, which was as good as I have had elsewhere for more money, and the Mrs went for house red, which again, I am assured was of great quality.
In total, including the wine on arrival, and another glass after the meal plus the optional 10% tip, we spent just over £60, which when you consider the week before we spent £76 on a terrible meal and drinks at La Tasca in York, well, it is a no brainer....fantastic french food, prepared by proper chefs, served with style, you work it out.
Flawless food, fantastic service. Many thanks
