Owner description: Tropical World at Roundhay Park is one of the most well-loved family attractions in Leeds and only three miles from the city centre. At Tropical World you can take a trek through the rainforest; stopping off briefly in the outback of Australia before a quick excursion through the desert, and all in the same morning! We re-opened on Tuesday 24 March. This follows some stunning renovations that have seen our aquarium area transformed into a new Amazon themed zone where you can see new residents including Piranhas and Salamanders. We are home to some old friends that include rare birds, crocodiles, butterflies, bats, spiders, snakes and our meerkats - the cutest family in Leeds.

“Value tastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

Surely one of the best value visits in Leeds. Heavily subsidised by the Leeds City Council, this little gem of conservation and wonder sits in an unimposing building on the edge of Roundhay Park. The clever use of space allows one to take an amble through rainforests, jungles and savannahs and see close up the creatures who inhabit those environments. We've been at all times of year and even at its busiest the clever layout allows you to feel unhurried and I rushed. One WARNING it gets oppressively hot in some of the areas whatever the outside weather so leave as many clothes as you can in the car. We're talking t shirt weather in there. The shape is well stocked with a good range of fun and educational toys related to the exhibits. It can be a bit tricky to go backwards if you need a lavatory but not impossible. Can't recommend highly enough for children and animal loving adults alike.

“Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

This is one of my favourite places and somewhere I always go when I visit Leeds. Walk through the butterfly house which also has some birds in there as well, lots of fish to look at, snakes, bats, meerkats (our favourite) and much more. All this for only £3.30 per adult. Fantastic value for money. I love it and will be back again and again. I will never get bored of this place.

“Well worth a look”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

This used to be a free attraction but still wrth a visit as children would otherwise not get a chance to see so many butterflies etc in such close surroundings. Lovely to see them flying all around and close. It is though as you can imagine very hot so make sure you dress to be able to take a layer off. The Meercats are very cute too.

“Wonderful for children of all ages”

The butterflies and meerkats are always wonderful. Great place with kids for a rainy day and very good value - especially with a Leedscard.

“Excellent”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

I visited Tropical World so many times as a child and with my school, it is a brilliant place to bring kids. Another plus its very nice on a cold autumn/winter's day.
Loved the meercats, the babies especially.
