“Charming little place slightly away from the crowdy centre”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

I was invited there on a Sunday afternoon and was very pleased with my visit. I lived in Leeds for so long and wasn't even aware this place existed! They are disadvantaged by their location: a far corner of Eastgate, away from shops and restaurants, so unless someone introduce you to the place chances are you will never go there.

The menu offers a nice mixture of what is classed as Middle-Eastern (mainly Lebanese and north African) cuisine: couscous, tagines, stews etc., as well as Arabic style tea and coffee with cardamom, very reasonably priced. You can eat at the tables (downstairs) or choose the "low seating" middle-eastern style. I agree with the previous reviewer that the décor is indeed eclectic but to me it is an obvious advantage and added to the welcoming and courteous staff and very good food it makes it what is is, a charming little place.

“Decor not great but food is delicious”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

We love arabic food and decided to give this place a go as we had been to its previous incarnation some years ago and wondered what the present owners were doing with it. We wanted somewhere we could have a good chat over great food and that's just what we got.

The decor downstairs is a bit out there and distinctly unco-ordinated....animal zebra prints clashing with other patterns but you can't say its boring and it is clean and certainly a conversation piece.

The staff are friendly and welcoming and the portion sizes are very generous. I had something like a Shish Tawouq (Marinated chicken on a kebab) and it was lovely, my friend had a tagine and was equally impressed. It was really excellent value for money.

If I was taking someone out with the intention of impressing them visually with the environment, this would not be the place, but if you want great food, informal service and value for money where you are free to eat at your leisure, then this is a good place to try. I'm giving it 3 stars because the decor is not to my personal liking and the loos need a refurb, but had it been based on the food and friendliness of the staff alone, it would have been a 4-5 star for value!
