Owner description: Step back in time and wander through the enchanting streets, shops and houses and experience life as a Victorian. As a fun, family-friendly and interactive museum, Abbey House Museum is a great day out for all the family. Come to one of our many family sessions as advertised on our website or pop in with friends for a trip down memory lane.On the ground floor visit Stephen Harding Gate, the 19th century equivalent of a modern high street, for some old fashioned retail therapy. In the back streets, see the home of the window washer woman or pop into the Sunday-School. On the first floor, see our Childhood and Community Galleries along with the changing programme of exhibitions. Abbey House Museum is situated directly across the road from the historical site of Kirkstall Abbey, set in wonderful parkland along the banks of the River Aire.

“A gem of a place to visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2015 NEW

A great museum with something for everyone. A good selection of educational exhibits that fascinated our 3 children aged 5, 8 and 11. Great staff members and a well arranged and organised museum. The cafe is well worth a visit too! And across the road you can visit Kirkstall Abbey. A good day out.

“Fabulous Small Museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2015 NEW

Abbey House Museum is lovely and is very accessible. This is a very interesting place to visit for families and couples. the displays and the old streets and shops are interesting for all ages. Children can interact with the displays and dress up. The cafe is very good although a bit expensive and there is a charge into the Museum, however it is well worth a visit.

“A great visit with the grandchildren”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2015 via mobile

The ground floor section is brilliant. Lots to see and do including free face painting and art ( not really relevant but good fun). Main criticism is although loads of exhibits few have names or descriptions. Upstairs is more 1940s than Victorian an related to children toys.

“Amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2015

My family (kids aged 4 and 9) visited here last week and were hugely impressed. Loads of free parking (get there before lunchtime if it's a nice day). We went across the road to kirks tall abbey first which was lovely, than across the road to the museum for lunch (lovely but service on till very slow). The museum is utterly fantastic for kids. The staff were exceptional, the penny slot machines, the wigs and the Victorian street were my nine year olds favourite and the tea party play area and the room full of toys my four year olds.

We spent a good 2 hours in the museum, there's a kids playground right next door for if they get bored.

The staff in the museum really made our day by playing with the children an talking to them At just the right level to get their interest.

Brilliant day out.

“Great Family Outing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2015

Couple going around the Abbey ruins with a visit to Abbey House and you have a great family day. There is a lot to see and it is great for adults and kids alike. Not expensive and even cheaper if you have a Leeds Card. The café does excellent food at reasonable prices or you could take a picnic if the weather is nice. Managed to park even on a busy Easter Sunday. Great all round.
