Owner description: Step back in time and wander through the enchanting streets, shops and houses and experience life as a Victorian. As a fun, family-friendly and interactive museum, Abbey House Museum is a great day out for all the family. Come to one of our many family sessions as advertised on our website or pop in with friends for a trip down memory lane.On the ground floor visit Stephen Harding Gate, the 19th century equivalent of a modern high street, for some old fashioned retail therapy. In the back streets, see the home of the window washer woman or pop into the Sunday-School. On the first floor, see our Childhood and Community Galleries along with the changing programme of exhibitions. Abbey House Museum is situated directly across the road from the historical site of Kirkstall Abbey, set in wonderful parkland along the banks of the River Aire.

“Wonderful old street”

What a surprise to find the old street in the middle of the museum. Well worth a visit and a trip round the Abbey itself. Some great special events during the year

we went after reading that they had improved the museum only to find out they had included an over priced cafe serving mediocre food and drinks sorry but we thought you had improved the street of the museum with more exhibits

“Great place for Mums and Dads and Kids”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

Just acorss the road from the amazing ruins of Kirkstall Abbey is the Abbey House Museum. It has a great cafe/restaurant and a wonderful museum focussing on the past history of Leeds, its streets, life, work and daily events with particular emphasis on children. At particular times (such as Halloween) themed events take place i.e.'spot the cats' spooky spiders and ghostly happenings. There is a dressing up room so that children can get a real feel for Victorian childhood and plenty of things that are child-sized and interactive. Upstairs there is a wealth of toys and games through the ages that are of interest for the smallest to the biggest in the family. Well worth a visit!
