We stumbled upon Friends of Ham after spotting their piggy sign following a coffee at the neighbouring (and similarly excellent) Layne's Espresso.
The concept is simple - freshly sliced continental cured meats, served alongside fine cheeses. There is an extensive gourmet beer list (no Fosters here!) and a small, but well chosen wine list.
It looks small initially, but there's a cavernous basement, quirky and trendy furniture with board games, light music and a great shuffleboard table.
This isn't somewhere to go for a full slap-up meal, but more to enjoy great hams, cheeses and drinks, in a unique continental style atmosphere, with knowledgeable and caring service.
Especially on a weekend, we were staggered to find somewhere like this in Leeds, a world apart from the noisy mayhem of most bars, to enjoy a cultured tapas style experience we'd expect to find somewhere like Barcelona.
Amazing, and we'll be back!
