We combined business with a leisure break and spent two nights here this week. Everything about the Leeds Novotel met or exceeded our expectations. As part of the Novotel chain, the hotel has the usual corporate design feel to it. However, this must be one of their best - and this is largely due to an excellent, well-managed and happy, staff team for whom good service and attention to detail is an expectation not a chore.
My booking was made on the Accor/Novotel website and I didn't pay anything in advance. On arrival, we were greeted cheerily by a very efficient and helpful receptionist - I raised a query about my 'A Club' membership card which she promised to sort out. Twenty minutes later she phoned me in my room to tell me that she had talked to the central team and that she had resolved the matter for me. Attention to detail,+good communication+good service=Happy customer!
We had a standard room on the second floor which was reasonably spacious and well-equipped. Everything was clean and tidy, and the bathroom and toilet was fine. We dined in the hotel restaurant both evenings which was good - dinner with wine and coffee for about £50 for two of us (we did use the 'Accor' club membership discount). We were quite surprised, given the very central location, how very quiet it was overnight. No traffic rumble, hooting, sirens, etc which one tends to expect in city centres suggests that the location, insulation and double glazing was carefully planned in this very modern building. Breakfast on both mornings was excellent - a very wide choice of hot and cold from the buffet counter. We'd booked a B&B package, but at £12.95 per person this breakfast is a bargain if you've got the time to enjoy it. We had, and we did!
Secure car parking is always an issue for me at hotels, particularly in central cities. Leeds Novotel has an excellent, secure underground car park, with access by lift or stairs to the hotel reception. The amazing thing was that the car park costs only £7 per day for hotel guests! You can't park anywhere in central Leeds as cheaply as this, and have the peace of mind I had.
The hotel's location is excellent - about two minutes walk from Leeds central railway station, and less than five minutes from the main city shopping streets. It took me just ten minutes to Harvey Nicholls!
It is worth joining the 'Accor Club' - free membership to a points-based loyalty card, with other benefits like dining discounts. You can join at the hotel or on-line.
On our next visit to Leeds, I want to explore the cultural side of the city - museum, art gallery, etc and take in a show perhaps. One thing is certain, we shall be staying at the Novotel again.
