“first class”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

This is a super Gallery that has some world class work in it it is great to go back time and again and be inspired by what you see. It is not the largess of Art Galleries but is perfect for a morning or afternoon and the range of work is excellent. It also has a superb craft gallery where you can buy some super quality work and then relax in the fine tiled restaurant.

“OY, I expect a roll with my soup”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

First the good news. The place itself is beautiful.
I had soup (nice but no roll - which is a first for me). I also had salad, which I was told was vegetarian but actually had chorizo in.
The place was busy and tables were covered in trays with the used crockery and cutlery of people who'd eaten and left. Now I'm not Einstein but even I can work out that the waiter who delivered my soup-with-no-roll and meaty vegetarian salad could have picked up a tray from a dirty table on each of his return trips. Whatever happened to common sense?

“Do I understand art???”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

Entry to the gallery is free, so naturally that is an attraction. On the level below there is a fabulous gallery shop; well worth a visit if you are looking for something special to fill a space in your lounge.
The main gallery structure is impressive, especially the tiled cafe, but how ever many times I visit the content of the gallery always leaves me underwhelmed...maybe I just don't understand art?!
The tiled cafe is a good place to meet up with colleagues for a coffee and a chat, especially if you can get a window seat and watch the skate boarders defying gravity just outside.

“Disgusting cafe and atrocious service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012 via mobile

I enjoy visiting the leeds art gallery every few weeks, but although the decor of the art gallery cafe is nothing short of breathtaking, the food and service are absolutely disgusting. I ordered the chicken soup a few weeks back. It was the worst thing i have EVER tasted in a cafe. I would never ever eat there again. The tables are always filthy and the coffee is horrible. Whats more, the blonde lady who seems to be the cafe manager is extremely rude. Whats more, i have seen her talking horribly to other gallery go'ers when they come and sit down in the cafe without ordering anything.
Juat last week i sat down for just one minute to read the gallery program, and she came over and told me the seats are only for paying customers so i would have to leave immediately. I was just about to go buy a cup of tea! I would feel stupid to go and buy one after being spoken to like that so i just left. Maybe she would be better off working with animals if she thinks its fine to speak to people like that. Never going again. But i will still visit the art gallery every time i am in leeds city centre.
