I was very excited to finally be staying at Quebecs last week after all my colleagues' rave reviews. They all stay frequently, and this was my first time. Upon reserving, the very polite reservations manager told me I could have a 'deluxe' room, which made me even more excited.
My welcome was very good despite the lady on the desk being on the phone, there was a chap who helped me with all the information I needed and handed me my key.
Upon arrival, the room was phenomenally hot and I couldn't work the thermostat out at all. I later realised I hadn't put my key in the slot that makes everything work (my fault!), but it really shouldn't have been so warm in there!
This led to my being forced to have a G&T from the mini bar (a secret ploy? :-)), which was delicious and extremely reasonable (unlike the green & blacks chocolate, which was massively overpriced, but it IS a mini-bar, after all).
I tried to wash my face in the basin, but the pop-up drainer wouldn't work. I found this to be pretty annoying for the duration of my stay, especially when it came to brushing my teeth!!
The free wifi was extremely slow. I understand that they want people to pay to use the premium service, but there was almost no point in having the complimentary wifi - it left me frustrated, so I turned my laptop back off.
I went out for dinner and came back and slept like a baby. The room was well-decorated and the furniture well-appointed, and what a fabulous building!
When I woke in the morning, I felt like I was in the desert. The room was far too hot (again). I hadn't had the foresight to put my key in the slot, and so the temperature was unbearable. This was also a consequence of the towel rail in the bathroom being set to maximum and the heated mirror being very hot (they were both so warm I couldn't use the bathroom without the door open, which made me feel very uncomfortable.
The breakfast room was lovely, and the choices available very good. The hostess was a little too efficient, though, and didn't give me much time to make a selection (I was too tired to be able to ask her to give me a few more minutes, so I chose quickly). The breakfast that came (vegetarian) was great - the perfect size. It came included with my room, though, and I'm not sure I would have paid the princely £16 on the menu, but I suppose it is a hotel after all!
I'm staying again next week, and hope for a better experience. I will ask not to be allocated the same room again, as the drainer doesn't work, and remember to use my key in the slot! I will also take a little more time to choose my breakfast.
The staff in this hotel were all superb, and the room was lovely. There were just a few small things I would change to make it worth the £95/night price tag!
