I booked a weekend break with superbreaks which included a meal on the first night.
I noticed on the website that the hotel had parking, but it didn't say anything about charges, when we arrived, the notice said £40 for the 2 nights! We checked at reception if this was correct & were told that it was in line with other hotels in the area, but it was said in a bit of a curt way! We moved the car to a car park 2 min walk away £16 for the same period.
On my booking I requested a double room and a quiet room (we'll get to that!) on check in, the receptionist checked that we'd booked the superbreaks deal and had booked a double room, I confirmed that this was correct, she then went on to ask if we wanted a double as they had twin rooms available, I can only assume that this was because we are a same sex couple! Not been asked this in a long time!
Was underwhelmed by the room, it was ok-ish, small for a double, looked tired and needed an update, huge tv took up most of the desk, furniture chipped and outdated, huge fan in the bottom of the wardrobe stopped you hanging clothes properly and there was no shelf or cabinet on one side of the bed which meant putting your cup of tea on the floor. Was a bit disappointed with the room as I expected more for a 4* but have been in better premier inns. We did wonder if the rooms pictured on the website went to guests not on the superbreaks deal!!
The kettle has to be taken off the shelf and put on the desk to use it, which takes up even more of the limited space.
Only one extra pillow in the wardrobe so we had to ask for another, asked at reception for some more milk as the 4 tiny cartons were used on our first drink & room service brought a little jug of milk! Which we couldn't use the next morning as it had been sat out all night.
Our deal included dinner on the first night, the food was lovely, but the restaurant is over priced, I think the only people eating there were on the deal, the oddest thing was the £7.50 surcharge if you had steak as part of your meal, we could see no reason for this.
Breakfast was included and was ok if you like lukewarm food, they need to find a better way of keeping the warm buffet warm or provide a microwave.
The worst thing about our stay was the disturbed sleep! I have never been anywhere with such squeaky floorboards! We kept getting disturbed by people walking past our room and people just walking around in the room above us! They weren't being noisy in any other way, it was simply the noise of the floorboards! Neither of us slept well in the 2 nights we were there and were exhausted when we got home, which was a shame.
We had a nice weekend, it was good value for what we paid but am not convinced I'd be bothered about returning.
