“EXCELLENT LOCATION BUDGET HOTEL”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013

We stayed here for one night to break a journey. Our room was small but adequate, clean, comfortable and had a descent shower. All the staff we met were pleasant, helpful and friendly. A remote control could be borrowed (for a refundable deposit) should you be so inclined to watch television. For me, the location was the main selling point of this hotel; it is surrounded by some excellent pubs, restaurants and shops and extremely handy for the railway station and the superb Leeds Armouries.
At only £40 (room only for two) the Discovery Inn is a great, no-nonsense place to get your head down. We parked in the nearby Q-Park and found (by serendipity) that the hotel has a deal with them (at least on Friday) whereby overnight parking is at a heavily discounted rate. I believe that the hotel does a reasonably priced 'continental' breakfast, but with a JD Wetherspoons only two minutes away, why bother!
My only gripe (as with most hotels) is that it was not possible to turn the heating down and so we had to sleep with the windows wide open and listen to folk who were even later and drunker than ourselves staggering around Leeds; a small price to pay for the convenience of staying so central and so cheaply!

I've had two recent stays at the Discovery Inn and both times I've found it to be good value and good service for the price and location.

Firstly - this is a budget hotel - don't got here if you're expecting a choice of pillow softness or state of the art technology or modern furnishings. The rooms are dated (Pine furniture etc) but they are also clean and well maintained. The bathrooms are clean too, though if you look closely they are showing their age a little. The beds are relatively comfortable (for a budget hotel) and there is tea and coffee making facilities in the room.I didn't try the breakfast - when right in the heart of Leeds I opted to pop out to get breakfast.

The big bonus of this place it it's location. It is right i the middle of leeds - so really useful for if you're out for the evening or meeting friends. And because it's right near the railway station, as a woman on my own I felt very safe walking back to the hotel in the evening -as it's a main street and well lit.

The staff on reception are courtesy and friendly - there is nearby parking (I parked in the Light which is 7 minutes walk away and £6.50 ish for overnight parking from 6pm-9am) but there are other carparks nearby.

My only minor grumble would be that it's very very hot!! I slept with the windows wide open both nights that I stayed there!

Summary - for a budget city centre option I would stay here any day. For a longer stay or romantic break / luxury treat I would look elsewhere.

Room Tip: If you struggle with steps not all floors are serviced by a lift at the moment so check with recepti...

We stayed here as a party of 14 in May, and could not fault this hotel. Its great value for money and extremely convenient - directly opposite the train station and only a short walk into the centre. David, the hotel Manager, was brilliant. Absolutely hilarious with a great sense of humour. Rooms very relatively basic, however very clean and spacious. Would recommend this hotel to anybody and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again! Made to feel very welcome on arrival.
Great location and excellent value for money!!

Excellent location just across from station (though via lots of steps!) and very handy for the downtown shopping especially the newest shops. Pretty old building and our floorboards were very creaky, but they keep it as clean as possible and beds are comfortable. Ample supply of tea & coffee. Older or disabled people may have trouble with steps in some corridors. We stayed here 4 years ago and it was good but noisy from traffic and Saturday night crowds on street, so this time we asked for a quiet room at the back. We were up on the 8th floor at the back and it was quiet but the access was a bit tortuous. Room a bit warm but could open window enough to compensate.

Room Tip: Rooms facing street are noisy, quieter rooms up at back are quite a long walk including steps

Hotel just over the road from the station, Very friendly & helpful staff at reception, Comfortable room with all the facilities required ie tea/coffe, TV, hairdryer & trouser press -ideal for business customers. Nice clean bathroom with an excellent shower, towels were changed daily, would definitely stay here again.
Also the pub next door offers excellent real ales and handy bar food although you are right on the doorstep to Leeds city centre bars & restaurants and the night life of course.

Room Tip: I stayed on the tenth floor which had noisy pipes in the late evening, plus they had a fault with th...
