“sting in the tail”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

well equipped and comfortable-stylish hotel-with good deals available. We stayed on a busy Saturday the last Weekend before Christmas. It did not start well, we arrived before check in time and were told that we had to check n in a couple of hours-ok the room might not be available but I would have thought we could have done the formalities? We were able to leave our bags and park the car (car park charges we concluded were worth it as it is very close by and this is a city centre hotel. When we came back and checked in the staff were friendly and welcoming-the room was a good size and well laid out-no bath just a shower but thats not a problem for me.
We had book on a half board basis and after drinks in the buzzing sky lounge we went down to the restaurant and enjoyed a very pleasant dinner-There was quite a bit of noise from other guests late into the night-morning but we put this down to Christmas high spirits.Breakfast was reasonable. Check out was where my problems came-Firstly despite the bill clearly showing Dinner bed and breakfast the full restaurant bill was also added. When I pointed out that we were half board an allowance was deducted £15 per head-not generous and not mentioned in the restaurant -the menu which we were shown had an a la carte page and what seemed like a table d`hote page. We were left feeling disappointed and after being told by customer services that it was a communication problem that we had highlighted which would be put right.
It was the first time that we have been in a position where we did not know about the cost of our meal until we were checking out and really ruined what had been a pleasing stay to that point.
Our half board deal was noy as good a bargain as it seemed when booking.

Room Tip: watch out for the upgrade options-

Been visiting Doubletree, or in its previous guise City Inn & Mint Hotel for the past 8 years. Pleasing contemporary decor, superb breakfast, awesome cocktail lounge on the 13th floor, mint clean, good location, discount parking voucher from reception.
Yes the Sky Lounge cocktail bar is pricey but you are rewarded in spades with simply the best views of the city, beautifully lit and a suitable clientele that befits. We always start the evening with a drink or two before venturing out the short walk through the railway underpass to the centre.
We must have visited this hotel 20+ times in the last 8yrs and paid (£54-£109 B&B). When we have ventured elsewhere in Leeds we have generally been let down by cleanliness, decor, food, location, price. Large comfy beds, Apple Macs in room, superb power shower and good lighting in the bathroom.
In this time there was only ever one glitch when the hotel was changing ownership/name in September/October 2011. Although I am hyper critical (grumpy so & so maybe) this was the occasion that I experienced the most superb professional customer service ever by Megan Lolley (believe she has since married/congrats) which to me stood out to be exemplary within the industry. It most certainly did not put us off returning, in fact we have visited more subsequently.
The reason for writing this review, I was researching restaurants in Leeds and realised this site would be nothing without we the reviewers! My previous review this being only my second was more of a moan/setting the record straight on what people perceive as being good food on an all inclusive. It is all too easy not to report on the good or great.
Double Tree is SUPERB!

I stayed at this hotel in Sept. 2012 while in Leeds for a conference. It was simply perfect for a business traveller like myself and I can't recommend it highly enough. From the warm reception from staff - complete with chocolate chip cookie - on check-in, to the ease of check-out, my stay at the Doubletree was excellent. The room was spacious and thoughtfully set up for working in. There was a window (that opens) near the desk so you had light and a view while working there, the work surface was expansive width-wise, there was an iMac TV and free wireless, the decor was tasteful and simple, and the bed was wonderful for sleeping. The bathroom was ultra-modern and rather masculine but otherwise very fine. The location of the hotel is just downhill - like a 10 minute walk - from the train station and it is quiet along the canal which would be really nice in warm weather. There are some restaurants and pubs near the hotel and I ate at the cheerful and good Japanese one. I had room service one night and the hotel food was also good. The hotel breakfast, although a bit pricey, was first-rate and was served in the crowded but exuberant feeling ground floor dining room with lovely views of the canal. You can save on the price of breakfast by purchasing breakfast vouchers on checking in. I'd go back again in a heartbeat to this Doubletree by Hilton.

Room Tip: Ask to be higher up (for the views) and if possible not facing the train tracks.

We only stayed for one night although others in our party stayed longer. We all thought it was good value for money having paid £80 per night for b & b. The rooms were very clean, quiet and very comfortable and breakfast was pretty much standard four star fare. We loved the Sky Lounge although it did hit our pockets pretty hard drinking cocktails all night. We would recommend the Doubletree to anyone coming to Leeds.

I have visited the sky lounge in this hotel a few times and decided to stay over on this occasion. The hotel staff were friendly with an easy check in. The room was clean with complimentary toiletries. I found the bed comfortable and had a great night sleep after a fun filled evening in the local bars which can be found just outside the hotel. Breakfast was great will definitely consider staying at this hotel again on my next visit to Leeds.

We booked a special internet offer over the Christmas period and very much enjoyed this hotel, having sampled the Crown Plaza and Novotel in Leeds on previous occasions.

The room was very comfortable and equipped to a high standard and included an Apple Mac which doubled up as a TV screen and gave free internet access plus digital channels including SKY Sports Channels. Breakfast had a good selection of hot and cold items and the staff were friendly and very helpful. The one weak area were the croissants which seemed to be of the 'run of the mill' doughy tasteless type. Why is it that English hotels cannot offer decent croissants and pastries?

The only downside is that if you are travelling by train, pedestrian access from the station is a convulated quarter mile walk under the railway arches to the hotel. It's a pity there is not a new walkway access from Leeds station, you can see the platforms directly above the Granary Wharf area.

If we are in Leeds again, we will definitely try and book here again.
