“Bird's eye view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2011

We enjoyed a two-day break during which we saw Leeds in glorious sunshine. The hotel's location was unusual, but very convenient for the railway station, restaurants and shops, and our accommodation was comfortable, well-serviced, thoughtfully-designed, and on a high floor with wide-ranging views. Staff throughout the hotel were very helpful, but special mention must be made of the staff's attention to detail and swift service at breakfast. We were aware that it can be busy at times, and so we went to eat a little later once business crowds had left. The views from the thirteenth floor were outstanding, especially at night, although the bar's prices were somewhat elevated also!

Due to the consistently excellent service I've experienced from staying in this hotel when working in or personally visiting Leeds, I felt that it deserved a positive review to be posted.

Plus, even though work pays most of the time, the room rate is actually very reasonable for city centre Leeds, in a very nice place, next to the train station.

One final thing - the iMacs in each room still excites me a little bit.

We flex into Manchester and took the train to Leeds. Mint hotel was about 3 blocks from the train station, but I'm glad I had downloaded the map to my handheld....the route from train station to the hotel was not immediately obvious (keep making right turns!). We could see the Hotel as we came into the train station, but it was on the other side of the canal, which makes it a little further to get to the hotel. We had a special rate which was a bargain...Hotel was upscale....room was very clean, nice furnishings, comfortable size, good, comfortable bed. The hotel was just off the downtown area, so very easy to find shops and restaurants in the area. We were meeting our daughter (studying at Univ of Leeds) and were able to walk from downtown to the University and back. We left on the train the next morning at 9:00, so being close made this connection very easy. We were on the 10th floor and had a nice view, but away from the city center.

Room Tip: get an upper floor, facing city center

Only stayed here for one night. Room was bright and clean, it was all very minimalist, lots of white and with Apple TV's in the room. Ended up on one of the higher floors so had some views too.

Centrally located, near to the station, although it's set in amongst the old canals and although I didn't have any issues I imagine one or two folk spend a few minutes trying to work out how to get to the hotel.

The Sky bar on the top floor is quite impressive, expensive but then almost every hotel bar is.

I only ate at the hotel for breakfast which has a good selection but if anything they are too efficient, order was taken for a cooked breakfast and it had appeared before I even had a chance to take a look at the continental selection.

The only thing that I would put down as a negative is that the service was sometime a bit rushed in th bars, breakfast and check in. I think they are a victim of their own success and everyone just seemed to be very busy and in a bit of a rush to get you processed as quick as they could. To give them the benfit of the doubt it was very busy when I arrived, looked like a number of coach parties/conferences all appeared at once. It wouldn't put me off staying again though.

First time at hotel.

It is five minutes walk from the train station to this hotel. The route though is a little grim involving going through the underpasses. To those unfamiliar with Leeds late at night this may feel a little intimidating on foot.

Check in was quick and all staff throughout stay were friendly and helpful, although reception area looked a little shabby.

Room was ok but was not sparkling in cleanliness. Our prepaid room was very basic although there was a couple of nice touches for a basic room e.g. glasses, fridge and safe and bathrobes.

However the room was on railway side and even though we were high up, we had to keep windows closed because of the screeching of trains on tracks.

Shower was very good, strong and hot

Beds were not very comfortable and I found the pillows hard, though my husband liked them.

Sky lounge has a fabulous view. There are some very nice areas in hotel to sit and relax. The menu was a little more imaginative than most hotels but we felt both bar and food prices were high. Almost £10 for two small glasses of house red wine (and it tasted like cheap plonk)

We got a couple of glasses of complementary champagne and it was proper champagne. That was a nice touch.

The middle lift scared the pants off us.

Breakfast is a mix of self service continental and waiter service hot food. The english breakfast was a good filling size but average in quality. Sauce has to be requested as they have it hidden in little bowls. The plates are red hot but the eggs on both days (poached and scrambled) were lukewarm. Other items on the plate were a mix of either roasting hot or lukewarm. Inexplicably the black pudding and field mushroom were halved in size on the sunday to the saturday, the hotel was busy so perhaps someone underordered.

There was no marmite!

Overall we would stay here again

Very clean - great location very near the station - great for a city stay - all rooms v clean - the club rooms are exceptional having a dual aspect view of leeds - great bar on the top floor - having stayed in the past, if it`s busy ,breakfast can be a bit painfull as you have to wait a bit at times best to be up early then! - but the breakfast was v good.- free internet on the mac in each room - helpfull staff.nice cocktail bar downstairs too - all round an excellent choice for a city break in leeds.

We managed to get a really good deal from laterooms and were really impressed with this hotel. The location is superb, overlooking the canal, a few footsteps away from some really interesting new bars and restaurants and a five minute walk to the train station and city centre.

The staff could not have been more helpful and welcoming, we were able to check in at 12am even thought the website had said 3pm onwards and were offered a choice of floor and asked if we wanted a particular view from the room. The room itself is not massive but nicely designed with floor to ceiling windows and fantastic views. It has an I-Mac in the room which can be used as a TV, computer or for free internet and Skype access. The only complaint about the room was that it was very warm and we had to have the air con on full blast all night.

Parking is offered on site at £12 for 24hours. You mustn't leave this hotel without visiting the Sky Bar on the 13th floor, service was very fast and the view was stunning.

Highly Recommended. I have given three stars for cleanliness as I did find some stray hairs in the bathroom and on the bed.

Room Tip: Visit the Hop bar opposite the hotel.
