I decided to book this B&B after reading the excellent reviews here. It looked stunning on the website and I had been planning a trip to Haworth for my partner's 27th birthday, so I decided this was the place!
I emailed Paul and Paula via their website and received a reply later that evening. The dates I had suggested were fine - the Memories room was available! - so I went ahead and booked. Paula told me there would be a steam train service from Keighley (where our train was arriving) shortly after our arrival, and she even phoned up to find out the price of a single ticket from Keighley-Haworth (£4 per person). I also arranged for breakfast in bed, at no extra charge, and handmade chocolates (£5) to be put in our room. I ordered two packed lunches for our second day, as I was planning a walk up on the moors - these were £4.95 per person and included a rucksack, a map, sandwiches, crisps, "fat rascals", an energy bar and tea, plus 2 bottle of waters for an extra £1 each. Very handy.
Upon arrival we found The Old Registry with no difficulty whatsoever. It is right at the end of the very picturesque Main Street, at the bottom of the hill. A lovely lady named Emily showed us the dining room and bar, and then took us to our room. She explained everything very clearly and we could tell that they had thought of everything! A book is provided in the room which contains everything you need to know.
The room itself, the Memories room, is beautiful. It has little touches everywhere, like teddies and trinket boxes, which really make it feel cozy. There's even a sewing kit! The bathroom is fantastic and extremely luxurious, with posh organic toiletries. There is a sofa with cushions, and even a hot water bottle in the wardrobe - though we didn't need it in the middle of summer! There are clean white towels in the bathroom and you don't really need to bring anything but yourselves, as everything is provided for you! There is a kettle with a large pot of teas, coffees, delicious hot chocolate, sugar, milk, etc. and also yummy "Bronte biscuits" such as fruit shortcake, oat biscuits, golden crunch, chocolate chip cookies, etc. There are some other things in the room, such as crisps, wine and chocolate, but you have to pay for these if you eat them! There's a list next to them of what they cost if you fancy them.
On our first night, after visiting the village, we decided to stay in and watch a film as we were tired. There is a list of DVDs and videos you can borrow, and you just go to reception and ask for the films you want. We chose Lost in Translation and Pirates of the Caribbean. We also went down to reception and ordered one of their stone-baked, home-made pizzas - we had the pepperoni one. Unfortunately a meeting was being held in the dining room so we had to have it in our room, but this just meant we could watch the films! The pizza, which you can see in my photos, was brought up to us by Paula with a smile on her face - it wasn't really like room service; more like we were just staying at someone's house! The pizza was yummy. Later in the evening we decided to try out the whirlpool bath, but the whirlpool function was broken! We asked Paul later and he said it had broken that weekend and he would try to get someone to fix it the next day. That was really the only negative thing I can think of, though.
Later in the evening we ordered desserts up to our room. These were brought by Paul, again with a smile! They were yummy but we couldn't finish them!
The next day was my partner's birthday and I had ordered breakfast in bed! This was brought up at exactly 8.30am on the dot, which is when I had ordered it for, and was lovely - as you can see from my photo! We then headed down to pick up our packed lunches. Paul was waiting there in the hallway with a rucksack for us! We set off for our walk and I can honestly say that despite the heat, the flask of tea really was a godsend - we had numerous tea breaks and really needed it. We sat down at the waterfall to eat our lunches and were so pleased we had ordered them - it had just the right amount of food to keep us going on our way up to Top Withens, the setting of Wuthering Heights.
Upon our return to The Old Registry that evening, we were greeted by Paul who chatted to us about our walk. He told us that he had not managed to get anyone in to fix the whirlpool so he would deduct some money from our bill. (He deducted £10, which made our room the same price as a room without a whirlpool bath - we thought this was very nice of him.) I realised upon returning to the room that the chocolates weren't there, so I went downstairs to ask Paul about it. He apologised and said it had been removed from my form - no big deal! He handed me the chocolates and I took them up to our room. It's a small box but they were really nice - we saved them for later! We went out that evening to eat at Haworth Old Hall, which is an old inn just opposite The Old Registry. We didn't want to walk too far as our legs were so tired after that 7-mile walk! We had a nice meal there and then came "home" (and it really did feel like home) to crash out.
The next morning we had breakfast in the dining room downstairs, and once again received impeccable service. Emily served us and was just lovely - she got us more tea when we wanted it, and I think Paul, Paula and Emily would all have gone out of their way to fulfill any of their guests' requests. The breakfast was lovely, possibly even lovelier than it had been the previous day, and the dining room where you eat is really cozy and nice with a great view of Main Street.
We checked out after breakfast and had a little chat with Paul again. He said we would be welcome back at The Old Registry any time in the future - and we said we shall definitely return. It was a truly memorable trip and we can't wait to go back! We are thinking of returning in the autumn, or possibly at Chrismas. Fantastic.
