“OK to Good Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2014

Superb looking building with great size rooms possibly the best staff of any Marriott hotel I've ever stayed in with the exception of the grumpy batman who would not open the bar after 1130 even for 7 hotel guest all paying nearly £200 pound a night. It's amazing how one person can really put a downer on what essentially is a great product.

Dear Guest

Thank you for taking the time to provide your valuable feedback further to your stay with us at Hollins Hall, A Marriott Hotel & Country Club.

I would like to thank you for your kind and positive comments regarding the hotel and you stay in general. These are much appreciated.

I am however concerned to read that your stay with us was marred by the closure of the hotel bar at 11.30pm. The closure time for the bar is ordinarily at the discretion of the hotel Night Manager, nevertheless we would normally expect to continue serving in the bar at the time you have indicated and the matter of the closure on this particular occasion is now being addressed. Should you have any further feedback regarding this issue please feel free to contact us.

In the meantime please accept my sincere apologies for the negative impact this gave you of the hotel and the inconvenience caused.

Kind Regards

Nice friendly reception, room was comfortable although the mattress was a bit dated(roll together). The pool and spa area was good too, breakfast on Sunday morning was fantastic staff were really on the ball but Monday was not so good having to wait for the buffet to be stocked with fresh eggs and bacon etc. but overall good. Asked reception about booking again at the end of May, she couldn't help, it will have to be done on line. Then when we asked about the reward of a free night stay, one said after two different stays and the other said after three, still none the wiser. Although very friendly staff, not very knowledgable. Now I have to go on line again to see if I can book 2 nights b&b at the end of May with maybe an option of a third night free.....maybe.

We stayed at Hollins Hall for one night on a dinner, bed and breakfast rate. The staff at check in were friendly and helpful, the leisure facilities great and the bedrooms quiet, clean and comfortable. Dinner in Heathcliff's Restaurant was a revelation. The River cottage menu, using locally sourced produce, is excellent. The service was good and the staff friendly. A wonderful meal in lovely surroundings, would definitely recommend.

Booked a four poster room and had breakfast.

Couldn't fault the stay. Room was exactly as described and very comfy, staff were very professional and breakfast was really good.

Is on site parking at no cost.

To complete 200 characters...have played golf here before and it's a nice course.

A pleasant welcome and staff lovely, I feel though they maybe making up for slack behind the scenes. The room is ok; no mini bar and temperature control - the manual method ie windows (in this case with magazines to jam them open) there is no conditioner in the bathroom and no water to drink. Granted I could have paid an 'upgrade' but I don't expect to, these are basics! Clean and tidy, comfy bed so all the creature comforts of a budget hotel, but this is not purporting to be budget. Now to food - unacceptable - two orders later on room service and a poor member of staff clearly run off their feet correcting slack in the kitchen, my fish on both occasions was off and smelt of ammonia. I was not charged for these but i went Hungry having lot faith in the chef. I might add just one of the two restaurants open, I suspect the wrong one. The wifi is extortionate but don't expect 3G as it is patchy at best. Would I stay again - perhaps for the reasonable price I got, should it carry the rating? For the staff yes, for the room perhaps - for the food? I will definitely eat out. Poor show Marriott, just commend your staff front of house and sack the chef. Oh and go for free wifi - it's a pre requisite these days in business - we expect it, if it isn't there we go elsewhere; if the defence is just ask my reply is I simply don't expect to at a "4*" hotel.

Thank you for taking the time to offer your valuable feedback further to your stay with us here at Hollins Hall, A Marriott Hotel & Country Club.

I am sorry to read that you found the condition and amenities of your room to be unsatisfactory and I have raised your observations with both the Property Manager and the Executive Head Housekeeper who would like to offer their own apologies for this shortfall in quality. Unfortunately, this did not meet your expectations or indeed the high standards we aim to maintain.

I am equally concerned to read of the poor quality room service you experienced during your stay and this has now been discussed with the Exective Head Chef with particular focus on the fish you were served which ultimately had to be returned twice. He assures me that further to this he will be raising the matter with our fish suppliers and monitoring the quality of the fish we receive and serve more closely.

The provision of Wifi is chargeable in bedrooms however we are pleased that we have been able to make Wifi accesibility free in our public areas. Whilst this has been well received generally I do understand the inconvenience caused by this facility not being currently available for guests to use in bedrooms.

I would like to assure you that we fully appreciate the concerns you raise in your feedback and additionally to assure you that wherever practicable we act upon such feedback in order to enhance the products and services we offer.

I am however pleased to read your positive comments regarding other aspects of your stay, particularly your comments regarding the staff service levels. These are most kind and much appreciated.

As a valued guest everything we do is aimed at providing you with an excellent hotel experience and it would be a great pleasure to welcome you back to the hotel again the future.
