“Friends Wedding to Remember”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2014

I attended a friends wedding as best man in August 2013, from meeting the wedding co-ordinator early on to discuss my speech the service very very good and on the day it was absolutely faultless but the hotel itself is in a really nice setting, my room was clean, bed was nice and comfortable, the pool facilities were there to be used but unfortunately i didnt get chance to use these. The breakfast was amazing!

Overall i would say this was an outstanding visit and i have also stayed in another Marriott hotel since

Room Tip: Go for the deluxe room, you get extra space and is worth that little extra

We held our wedding reception at Hollins Hall on New Year's Eve and would recommend it as a venue without hesitation. Tanya, the wedding organiser, and all of the staff at the hotel were absolutely brilliant. They made us feel very special and took great care to look after us. Tanya was a great support with all of the planning and nothing was too much trouble. She even made us a quick hot chocolate to enjoy while we had a few minutes together while guests were seated.

The wedding breakfast food was fantastic with very generous portions and the evening buffet of hot roast sandwiches was also very well received. They were very accommodating and we appreciated being allowed to add personal details to the day which we had not had expected from a hotel belonging to a large chain.

I had mine and my mums makeup done by Gemma from the spa who was brilliant. She went out of her way to help out when one of the other staff feel ill and did a great job.

For us it was the perfect venue for a winter wedding with plenty of indoor space for all our guests and in beautiful grounds. The staff really helped to make it an amazing day for us.

I found a deal online where you can get a mini treatment (25 mins), full use of the spa facilities and a complimentary tea and cupcake. This was £25 per person and great value for money. I went with my husband and we had a fantastic time.

The leisure centre was clean, modern and had friendly staff with great service. The changing rooms were really pleasant with hot showers, hairdryers and key-less lockers.

I cannot complain about anything, I just thought that it was a bit pricey at the Zest bar and restaurant, we had one drink each (coffee and soft drink) which came to £5.20 just as a one off, and we just ate elsewhere to save a bit of money.

We stayed here for one night on New Years Eve 2013 in room 307 having dinner, bed and breakfast.

Despite the hotel being very busy with a large wedding reception and party, the staff were smiley helpful and efficient. We had a pricey snack in the Zest Bar where I found a well kept, hand pulled guest ale among the usual suspects at the bar which was a welcome surprise.

Dinner in the evening at the Heathcliffe restaurant was excellent, albeit a tad lacking in atmosphere. The only fly in the ointment came when my guest asked for horseradish sauce with her beef from a waitress who's English was not the best. She did not bring it possibly due to her misunderstanding the request. A second attempt to another member of staff rectified this though with apologies. The food however was mouth watering.

Our large room had two comfortable double beds (despite only needing one) and was very clean with plenty of towels and good quality toiletries provided. No DVD player on the TV though.

As well as an 18 hole golf course this large hotel also has a Health Club I can recommend having used the excellent swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi twice during our stay.

Everything was clean and worked, although setting the personal combination on my changing room locker proved a challenge. Still, better than fiddling with tokens or pound coins or having to take a key with you.

Ice was brought to our room for our champagne to welcome in the New Year, although another misunderstanding resulted in them bringing another bottle which we hadn't asked for.

Breakfast was a busy affair on NY day morning being mainly self-service but thoughtfully extended to midday for late risers. When we arrived at 10, we were given a table for two by the window and most welcome tea and coffee appeared quickly. The food selection was extensive and plentiful.

Breakfast on 1st January is always a good test of any hotel as staffing levels can be a problem. It was therefore impressive to see so many well marshaled staff on hand dealing as if it was just another day. Top marks.

An express check out service is provided, but we were in no hurry and after settling the bill asked if there was any information on the history of the building. The receptionist provided a free pamphlet to each of us with a smile. If you stay here, do ask for one as the place has a most interesting past.

Large hotels at holiday times can be impersonal places. The word "soulless" has appeared in several recent reviews. We however were delighted to discover personal touches and good service here throughout and consequently thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay. Recommended.

Stayed here for 2 nights just after Christmas 2013. It was a family break and there were 17 of us ranging in age from 71 to 3 years of age. This was the second time that we have stayed here as a group and it was very enjoyable. The rooms are spacious and well equipped and one of our families had rooms with a connecting door which was very useful with young children. The hotel were most accommodating when it came to eating arrangements for such a large group and our meals together were one of the highlights of our stay. The food was good quality and always presented well although, like most hotels, the house wine was on the expensive side. The public areas, with complimentary wi-fi, were spacious and the large indoor pool was brilliant, especially for the children. The staff were outstanding, apart from one instance when ten of us descended on the pool altogether causing some panic for one of the attendants. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they bent over backwards to meet any needs that we had. It is ideally placed for visiting the Yorkshire Dales as well as Leeds and Bradford. We look forward to returning in the future.

My husband and I stayed at the Marriot Hollins Hall on Friday 3 January. It was perfectly alright for a brief overnight stay. Staff were very pleasant, room was spacious and clean (the bathrooms are a little dated). Breakfast is a bit pricey and the restaurants are rather soulless.

The main reason for the trip was to relax, eat and use the so called luxurious spa facilities. I was quickly disappointed. I upgraded to a deluxe room and all I can say is that it was dated and underwhelming. The Zest restaurant was soulless with poor service and overpriced food (when it finally arrived). The spar facilities were more akin to Butlins than a country retreat - it was packed full of screaming kids! There were signs saying that kids could not go in the jacuzzi but that didn't stop them and there were no staff to do anything. I lasted 20 mins before I had to get out. I tried again early the next day but it was even worse.. The only positive thing to say is that the reception staff were nice and the meal I had in the Heathcliff restaurant was great. But all in all a totally disappointing visit.
