“Pleasant Break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2012

We were welcomed and showed to our room on arrival. Staff very polite and helpful. Room was basic but very clean & comfortable. Tv, fresh flowers, water, biscuits, chocolates, tea & coffee supplied. Breakfast was first class, choice of cereal, toast and freshly cooked full English..Easy access to Chichester, bus stop right on Woolpacks doorstep.Gardens beautifully kept and a pleasure to sit in. We would certainly revisit.

Just had a Sunday roast here and it was the best roast I've ever had outside of my own kitchen. £9.95 for 2 people money well spent.
We will certainly reccomebd this to all our friends and will visit again soon

We were very disappointed with our recent 3 night stay at the Woolpack. We chose to stay here as it is very close to the relatives that we were visiting. The bed was rock hard and the bedding and towels had certainly seen better days! The bathroom was a little outdated and could have been cleaner. The walls seem to be paper thin and unfortunately we heard everything that was going on in the adjoining room, including the guest throwing up in the middle of the night!! The staff seemed friendly enough and the breakfast was edible, although I wouldn't be in a hurry to try the sausages again!

This accommodation is not really our cup of tea and we won't be staying there again.

After an awful night in Portsmouth we were a little anxious about a next stop. We need not have worried. This place is warm, friendly, clean and extremely good value for the modest price charged. The rooms were spacious and had everything one could wish for from the heated towel rails in the bathroom, the TV with DVD player to the chocolate mints and the comfy bed. Cosy bar with friendly service. We were lucky enough to arrive on 'Steak Night'. Nothing but steak on the menu, at two meals for the price of one, and very good it was too. Next morning, a great breakfast to send us on our way. I cannot praise this place too highly and have told other Dutch friends about it. Our daughter will be going to Chichester College soon and we will be regular visitors to England. We know where we will be staying and will certainly spread the word.

Room Tip: We booked 2 rooms and they were both super. Can't help with a tip, except to say that you probab...

the welcome ... a little non-existent. shown room, not much help or information given.
room basic .. pretty fresh flowers .. teas and coffees, bottles of water, biscuits and mints were good. tv .. yes, no remote and difficult to work manually..kettle should have been emptied and was in need of cleaning.
bathroom basic .. clean..ish. shower good but shower curtain let water onto the floor causing slight flooding.
breakfast 9 til 10am .. 5 guests had to wait locked outside in rain until dead on 9am when doors opened. just a case of help yourself with very little staff guidance. full english breakfast buffet style...very good with homemade sausages and tasty bacon. as the hotel was fully booked on this occasion perhaps the one member of staff could have done with extra help!
oh yes ... and one roll or two .... there was space for two toilet rolls in the bathroom but we were given a room with not even a full toilet roll.. but don't worry, we were able to leave four sheets..phew!

This accommodation was ok for one night, although on checking in at the pub the smell of a dog was around. we were not given information about the eating arrangements and had to wait a while until being shown to our room. The smell of air fresheners hit you the moment you the moment you walked into the room, and on opening the door to the bathroom, we knew why, the smell of damp in there was pretty bad. so bad that on looking into the bathroom my 17 year old daughter said she was not going to take a shower that night or in the morning. I would not recommend this accommodation to anyone, nor would I stay there again.

I read the reviews and didn't expect to stay at the Ritz, but when I arrive on a business stay, it was a thousand times worse than expected. When I was shown to the room that resembled a hostel, I was automatically confronted with a room that smelt of human waste. The whole place was extremely out of date and run Down, I don't think the bedding has even been cleaned since it opened in the 1920s, the toilet was a disgrace and we were given no toilet roll. The breakfast was worse than terrible, they promote the sale of famous " o'hagans" sausages which I regretfully had for breakfast which I can only describe as tasting like a chewy rotten kebab. The pub/bar was a meet for the local alcoholics that smelt of wet dog, stale ale and sweat. The service was appalling and they were very rude showed no intrest in our needs and continuously coughed in my face. My recommendation is that you stay well clear of this place and if you were in my position where everywhere else was fully booked, see if the local prison will do you a bed for the night.
