The decor, although in fairly good condition, is a bit stuck in the 1980's and in need of refreshing. There is nothing much of beauty inside the guest house; a bit unloved. Our room felt very cramped because it had eaves (sloped ceilings), and even the door to the ensuite had a large corner taken out of it to accomodate the eaves. Added to this, our two beds were positioned at opposite sides of the room, which is ok if you've had an argument with your other half, but otherwise is a bit unfriendly. Nevertheless, i have given it 4 stars instead of 3 because service, cleanliness, and breakfast were all above average. I will not be rushing back to this place, but you could do alot worse.

I am sorry that the guest who wrote this review did not enjoy his experience. He made his booking late and our double rooms (including the"honeymoon room") were already booked. It is not possible to put the beds together in his room, which was the only one still available when the guest made his enquiry. Like all of the rooms in our rustic
18th century home, the room has beams supporting the roof. However, this does not restrict movement at all in the room but most people feel that it adds to the character of the house.
The house is very much loved and cared for, and is recommended by both the Michelin Guide and the Good Hotel Guide. The reviewer's room, and another one, has had a shiny new shower room installed this year, and the remaining rooms will have new shower rooms over the coming two years. In the meantime, we will continue to keep the older shower rooms spotlessly clean.
In addition, the reception hall, lounge, stairways and landings were all decorated and recarpeted this year, and the exterior of the house is currently being repainted.
The reviewer says that there is nothing of interest in the house. Perhaps he missed the antique grandfather clock, 1898 model locomotive (built as an apprentice piece) and our collection of milk bottles embellished with advertisements. I think that, if he had booked earlier and had a double room, he would have left with a very different impression.
