We visited with friends recently for the first time. The food was delicious and well presented and the staff were friendly. Would definitely return and recommend to others.

“Excellent food and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

We visited the Basmati, Chichester (which is actually in Westergate, about 5 miles from Chichester) for the first time on a dreary Monday evening in early February. We had driven past it at least once a week since it opened without paying it any attention, which is a pity because it gave us an extremely pleasant evening out. It stands by itself on a triangular island surrounded by roads on all sides; but it has its own car park behind. The restaurant is surprisingly spacious, with the tables reasonably spaced. It is tastefully decorated and the background music is subdued.

The staff were very welcoming and attentive and, although there was only one other couple dining, the atmosphere was relaxed and unhurried. After papadoms, we started with tandoori mixed kebab and chicken tikka, followed by chicken biryani and chicken jalfrezi main courses. All courses were tasty and plentiful, spicy but not mouth-burning. Both food and drink are reasonably priced and, as we left, we were offered a complimentary liqueur.

The Basmati is highly recommended and we shall certainly be returning before too long.

“One of the best curry's I've had!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2012

After trying several Indian restaurants in the area, friends introduced us to Basmati and this is far and away the best curry we have had - here in the Chichester and in the UK in general. Our favourites include Chicken Jalfrazi and Goan Fish Curry. We have never had anything we haven't liked and even non-curry folks can enjoy the sizzler options. In addition we only have the highest praise for Basmati staff who made us feel right at home.

“If only this was on my doorstep.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

I wish that we had such a wonderful Indian Restaurant as this in my home town. Service was exceptional, food quality and taste out of this world. I can honestly say that my guests who live locally and recommended that we should dine here know a great place to visit. This restaurant is not in anyway pretensious but know how to cook and present a genuine good Indian meal.
I would certainly revisit on my next trip south and without doubt recommend this as probably the best in sussex.
