Description: Cloisters Cafe prides itself on fair trade suppliers and freshly cooked food, featuring dishes such as smoked haddock with a gruyere and tomato gratin, supreme of chicken in a mushroom and tarragon sauce and roasted sweet potato with a bean ragu. Old favourites also appear on the menu along with baked potatoes and a range of hot and cold sandwiches. There is a roast on Sundays when bookings can be made in advance. Cloisters also has a beautiful walled garden and the stunning Cathedral spire can be seen through its glazed roof. Next to our cafe is the Cloisters Shop, offering a range of unique and gorgeous gifts and accessories, souvenirs and religious items. A perfect way to round off a visit to the Cathedral, or just to find that special present.

“Gets very busy & noisy at lunchtime, lovely gardens in summer,”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Love the gardens in the summer - great view of the Cathedral spire and when they are there, the peregrines. In winter it can get very crowded and noisy at lunchtimes. Good toilet facilities. Food is OK and quite good value, but the coffee is not brilliant. I think the staff are volunteers and they are always friendly and helpful. It's a good location with access from both West Street and South Street, but not ideal for anyone who is not able to walk very far. The Cathedral shop is right next to the restaurant and it sometimes has some different gift ideas.

“Decent, affordable, lovely setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

Simple, trad lunches, very well cooked - fish pie, chicken casserole, baked potatoes, etc. And the walled garden is just a beautiful place to sit and relax in the middle of lovely Chichester.

“Rude staff made this experience a nightmare”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2012

This cafe has to be one of the worst I have ever visited. I went there because I wanted to support the Cathedral but was greeted by rude and sarcastic staff who seemed more interested in scoring points off one another than customer service. The selection of food on offer was nothing special and I would not recommend this place to anyone.

“Nothing Special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2012

Ate at this restaurant when we visited Chichester for a day out with friends. I had the fish pie which was average to say the least. My wife had the pannini which was very short of filling. Our friends enjoyed their meals and the setting is pleasant, but it could be a lot better food wise.

“Hidden gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2012

Excellent food, though less interesting than when it was run by local church groups. Beautiful garden and opportunity to watch the peregrine falcons on CCTV.
