“Lovely”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

My wife and I have often stayed at the Goodwood. It is a lovely quiet hotel in beautiful Sussex Countryside.
The hotel staff can never do enough for you and the rooms are all being updated so are very nice with very big comfy beds.
Its not cheap but they often have offers on so if you get an email from them that's a good chance to take advantage.
Dinned in The Richmond Arms and had the best fillet steak I have ever had.
take a break and enjoy

Room Tip: Ask for one of the newly refurbuished rooms

We visited this hotel about 18 months ago and we were impressed then so I decided to treat my husband for Christmas.

On arrival we were greeted by the friendly reception team one of whom took us to our room and carried our bags. The room was newly refurbished and of a comfortable size. We asked the host for advice on where to go for a meal and he was very helpful giving us a range of options depending on what we fancied to eat.

After unpacking we decided to head to the pool for a quick swim and relax and the jacuzzi. It was busy but we were still able to enjoy the facilities.

We decided to go out for dinner and chose a pub recommended by the staff called The Earl of March. They rung through to the pub to see if they could get us a table beforehand which I thought was really helpful. The pub served delicious food and was clearly very popular - they created a table for us in the bar area as the hotel had rung through!

As parents of two young children we like to go away for time to relax and have a good nights sleep! We weren't disappointed.....the bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in and because of the black out curtains we both slept until 10am (totally unlike us)! Thankfully we didn't miss breakfast as we both remembered it being lovely from our last stay. Once again it was delicious and cooked to order, which is quite rare these days.

Our room included a 'treat' so I chose for us to have a massage in the spa. The room only included one so I pre booked another one so we could both have one. We checked out and went down to the spa. The massage was nice but pricey at £35 for half an hour. If we hadn't got one for free I would have been disappointed paying that much but as I see it we both had a massage for £35.

Even though we had checked out we were still able to use the facilities so went to the pool, it was much quieter this time round and was a lovely end to our weekend.

I don't think you would be disappointed if you decided to stay here!

Room Tip: 254 is the biggest Signature King if you can get it when you book!

Spent 4 nights at this most pleasant hotel with my daughter. Newly refurbished rooms are very well equipped as mentioned by other reviewers. The windows are small so the rooms are a little dark ... In January! However there was a magnifying illuminated mirror in the bathroom bright enough for anyone. See.. Complaint about being unable to see to put on make up!
The staff were lovely, requests were promptly dealt with and service of a high standard. We dined in the Richmond Arms Restuarant and the Bar, both very reasonable and the food imaginative, fresh and well presented. We enjoyed golf on the Park course, nothing too strenuous. Play the Downs course for a more testing game. The hotel sports and spa facilities are open to local members, so do not expect to have them all to yourself, but there are quieter times. All in all a most pleasant stay, we will be back.

We fancied a night away to break up the January blues. The rooms were lovely, with the largest and most comfortable bed, big TV and a selection of books in each room. The shower was powerful and the selection of Molton Brown products was great. Complementary bathrobes and slippers and Montezuma chocolates was a luxurious touch. All the staff were very attentive and we all came away very impressed with the standard of service we received. We ate in both the hotel restaurants as well as at the Kennels, all very good. The hotel is situated in a peaceful rural area, in lovely gardens. The kids spent hours in the pool. We planned to do many things during our weekend away, and ended spending most of our time just relaxing in the hotel and utilising their facilities. Goodwood House and the sculpture park were unfortunately closed due to the time of year....so we will just have to go back later in the year!

Travelled as a couple staying in early January. We fancied a break in the countryside in modern settings but a rural location. We were thrilled with the room which was very new and immaculate decorated to a high standard room and shower room alike. The tv was large and modern and the room was well supplied with bathrobes and towelling slippers etc all complimentary. The toiletries were all high ended brands which was a nice touch as well as the bottled water and in room chocolates and tea making facilities again all free and classy. The room and entire stay was very reasonably priced this may in part be due to the location of the hotel which is in charming and well kept surroundings but which is remote enough probably to struggle to keep occupancy high during off peak periods. That said for the service and rooms and venue we would have expected to pay more.
There was also the facility to have breakfast brought to the room by staff at no extra cost which we certainly weren't expecting and the breakfast was great. The facilties, spa and swimming pool were modern and well maintained. The only thing we would say about this aspect of the stay is that it would appear local residents are able to use these facilities every day throughout opening hours with no distinction or segregation from hotel guests. There was a aqua aerobics class for senior citizens going on mid morning for example while me and my wife were trying to have a relaxing dip in the pool and jacuzzi while people who were not hotel guests had come in from outside and pretty much taken over the area. I understand that a very nice hotel with good facilities in a rural setting will probably open up their facilities to local people to bring in additional revenue but I think paying hotel guests have their own expectations about their right of access and enjoyment of the pool etc and it's a difficult balance the hotel haven't quite struck with the pool busy and loud and more of a local recreational pool than a relaxing spa type retreat for guests.
We ate in the hotel restuarant the Goodwood grill and the food was very good and reasonably priced.
We had a great time and we were very impressed with the quality of the hotel and the staff, we would certainly stay again but would be wary of viewing it as a 'relaxing spa' experience, more of a nice stay in beautiful settings but with busy leisure facilities.

Stayed for one night with my wife and our spaniel Alfie. Although the room was slightly on the small side it was extremely comfortable, the bed was the best we have ever slept in. We used the gym, sauna and pool all good, popular but not too busy, in fact I used the gym the next morning and was the only user. The food, dinner and breakfast out of this world. The evening meal we had at the kennels was amazing, breakfast was at the Richmond Arms again excellent. The staff were very attentive and polite. Tried to stay a second night but full. We will be back.

Booked with 2 other couples through Your golf travel, as something to brighten up the the slghtly depressing days after Christmas, so stayed for 1 night on 30/12/12. Its only 20 mins from where we live and we had to be there by 11.00am for our tee off time. We were very well greeted and impressed that we were able to get into our rooms straight away. The room was a fair size with a very large and very comfortable bed and matching TV! Good bathroom and all well equipped.
Our evening meal was excellent and breakfast was also very good. The Spa area was good with sauna steam room and large pool and jacuzzi. Previous reviewers have commented on how busy the spa area was. Many hotels also have memberships for their Spas so it was par for the course, but we didn't find it too bad. If you want a quiet and more intimate spa you have to look more upmarket than this, but for our purposes it was great. The golf course was OK but not the most interesting we have played, but then the weather was determined to spoil our fun anyway
